Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Do I have a chance of getting the week I need in Hawaii?

Jan 09, 2013

Back in late October, Allegiant Airlines had an amazing sale on flights to Hawaii, so I bought tickets for our family and put in a request with II for dates in February.

I was offered 2 units at Ko Olina but both were on the small side, and the II rep said that late December and January were busy months with people depositing their weeks. It sounded like I would have at least another chance or two of getting a unit confirmed. I added locations on Oahu in addition to locations on the Big Island.

Well, we are now less than 30 days away from our trip, and I don't have anything confirmed. I'm getting really nervous and am starting to look here on Red Week (unsuccessful so far) as well as hotels and VRBO.

For those of you who are more experienced with timeshares, should I throw in the towel re: my request with II or hang in there for a bit longer? The exchange fee for the week will make the trip so much more affordable for us than paying many more dollars to rent something on my own.

Any advice or tips? By the way, we'll be there for 11 days between 2/8 and 2/19.

Thanks so much.
