Jan 15, 2013

We have owned a time share at Westin Kannapali since 2002, We had a difficult past 3 years and were unable to pay our maintenance fees. We have an opportunity to bring account current..This will be a 8000.00 fee. What should we do?

Sincerely... Lori

unless you are in a high enough income bracket to write off such a loss, go ahead and dump it. On the other hand you could continue to make very meager payments to just show performance and good will. It becomes a game of chicken on who blinks first. you still have the timeshare. see what happens. Don't be a SUCKER

Lori, it depends on you and your current circumstances (ie: how important is your timeshare to you, are you in financial shape to pay the fee, what happens if you don't pay the fee .... could damage your credit score) all these questions and many more can only be answered by you.

I honestly don't understand how being in arrears 3 years for non payment of maintenance fees could add up to $8000 unless they're adding penalties and interest.

(Note: After researching maintenance fees at your resort I now see that many fees are in the $3000 range yearly so the $8000 makes sense.)
