Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Renting a Timeshare seems sketchy

Apr 04, 2013

I'm trying to get a Room for vegas($900). The guy wants me to give him $500 upfront to save the dates. Then the other $400 21 days before the check-in date, and then he will send conformation and paper work to me. I talked to him on the phone/email and map-quested his address he gave me to send the money to. I asked for the booking info with the hotel, and he gave me a reservation number, and a couple phone numbers to the hotel. He also said " I will need the nane you want on the reservation and the resort requires your mailing address and phone number". Told me I have to be 21 and everything. He even mentioned the escro service Redweek has to offer if Im worried about getting scammed(I would rather not pay the escro fee). So it sounds pretty legit, but I'm still thinking he could just take my money. even though his name place of residence is correct on the internet. Any thoughts?

I'm an owner at the Jockey Club in Las Vegas. It's a timeshare right on Las Vegas Blvd. next door to Bellagio. I occassionally rent my unit through their in house rental program. They take my week and rent it out just like a hotel. You can call them at ( 702 ) 798 - 3500 and deal driectly with them if you like their property. This way it's completely safe and the location is great.

First of all, the owner should have a rental agreement in place stipulating the terms of the rental and signed by both the owner and you .... I would never rent without a rental agreement .... you can 'search forums' for sample rental agreements and email it to the owner to fill out.

Hi ...Most of these situations are legit but with all the scammers out there I can see your concerns. Did you ask for other renters references with emails? I would do that first. There are very few places in Vegas that I would get a timeshare accommodations as many are off the strip. Try for Marriott Grande Chateau, Elara (Attached to Planet Hollywood), possibly Jockey Club,The Carriage House, the others are not worth it .Is the person you want to rent from a Redweek member? Good luck.

I would suggest that you just pay the escrow fee and count that as part of the cost of doing sound business.

How much is the escrow fee? Anything less that 100 bucks seems worth it for peace of mind.

I would suggest he do nothing until a rental agreement is in place signed by both the owner and the renter .... it is not a sound business pracrice to just send money without an agreement.
