I'am considering purchase of a timeshare in calif, found a 1 bedroom that I really like however it's not big enough for my family. Should I try to purchase another time share to accomadate my entire family?

To me, that's like saying "I want to buy this pair of shoes. They look nice but they don't fit."

Remember, one of the main ideas of owning a timeshare is to have more comfortable accommodations for about the price of a hotel room. If a 1-BR is not big enough for your family, then I personally would recommend you not purchase it.

Check various listing sites for a 2-BR at this resort or another one in the area. If you don't see any, then put in an ad on these various sites that you would like to purchase a 2- or greater BR. You just might find someone who will want to part with his.

I would say that it depends on the popularity and supply and demand of the resort you're looking at. Also, how many other timeshare resorts are in the area that you're looking for?

How hard would it be for you to get a larger unit at the price you're willing to pay? Also blow up beds would come in handy in case you should choose the 1 bedroom.
