It was not meant as a smart answer. Renting from an owner or a timeshare rental brokerage requires some additional steps if you want to protect yourself from problems like you encountered. Redweek offer advice in the resource column above: http://www.redweek.com/resources/stay-safe If you want something that is 100% secure and guaranteed, you should rent directly from a national chain of hotels/resorts and even then you probably still want to do some due diligence and read the reviews to make sure you are getting what you think you are getting.
I certainly don't work for redweek and personally think it is a step above craigslist in terms of having less inacurate postings and misrepresentations (but certainly not immune to either) but it does not claim to be anything other than an advertising site that one can pay to advertise and one must pay to contact advertisers.
And let this be a warning to those who use redweek, not all postings listed are 100% accurate. There is a possibility that someone is hoping to scam or deceive members by paying to place an advertisement. There are other owners who don't know or understand their timeshare ownership or membership usage. There are steps you can and should take to verify all of the important details in an ad. If you don't want to do this you are taking your chances or should look elsewhere for your rentals.
