Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Renting to broker vs individual

Dec 14, 2013

this is my first attempt at renting my timeshare and have been contacted by a broker who has offered the rental price in the form of a certified check or Paypal. He also said that he would send me his client's information once he had one for the rental.

does this sound legit or should I be concerned about any kind of scam?

thanks for any input! Rachel

This sounds like a middle man using Redweek's rental listings .... the thing about middlemen is that they have to up the price of the rental for their commission .... the number 1 thing we stress here on Redweek is to never, ever send any entity an upfront fee for listing your timeshare for sale or rent.

thanks for your response jayjay, he is not asking for any fee from me, and i assume my listing was interesting to him because it is at a competitive rental price. I was just being skeptical because i got such a quick response and, without trying to be offensive in any way, his grammar was very poor, which i normally associate with a scam.

Interesting. I recently received an offer for my timeshare that I have listed for rent. I responded with a new proposal and he said that he had to check with his client. He never said that he was from a broker when he made the original offer.

This is fairly common & have rented to the same broker 2 times w/o any problem. Have also rented to individuals w/o any problem, just be sure the terms understood by all concerned.
