Assigning a Timeshare to Rent

Jan 02, 2015

I have a 2BR timeshare "banked' with Interval International that expires at the end of March. As I am unlikely to use it myself, I was wondering how best to rent it on redweek. I guess I can't offer the timeshare as yet-unassigned, right? I am assuming I first have to assign it to a specific resort for a specific week before I can list with redweek.com to rent. Was looking for any suggestions on where I might assign the week I have to maximize the amount of rent I might get. Just trying to avoid getting nothing for the expiring unit.

Thanx,

Marc

You cannot rent it out. Interval International (II) and RCI prohibit the renting out of exchanged units. As for the week you have banked, it now belongs to II so it is no longer yours to rent out.

Interval International might have a policy where, for a fee, you can extend the period for you to acquire an exchange for your banked unit. Call and ask.

But do not fall for any of these scams that claim they can rent out your banked or bonus units if you pay an upfront fee.

You could retrieve your week back form the exchange company and then rent out your original week at your home resort. Another alternative like Lance stated is to pay an additional fee to extend your exchange and use it in the future. Good Luck.

You mean, even if I assign the deposited week to say a March week in cancun I would be the only one who could use it? That week isn't then mine to do with what I want but rather "propoerty" of II who is allowing use of it by only me?

Will have to contact II to confirm what you have said (though there is some logic to it) and to see about the extension.

If the week is expiring this year then it was a 2013 week that was deposited. It's little late to retrieve and rent out the original week. Generally this can only be done with a request first or a banked week that was deposited in error and in deposited within a day or two.
