Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Be VERY WARY of who you are renting from!

It is always a good idea to do due diligence when buying or renting. There have been some scam artists renting units in the past and a call to the resort to determine unit ownership is always a good idea before sending any money.

When we booked with Chris Wood we booked our 2 weeks through Mastercard. Since we have spoken with Mastercard and they too have given us the run around. We contacted Mastercard within a couple of hours of talking with Chris but the transaction had already been put through. This guy didn't waste any time. Does anyone know how to go about disputing this with Mastercard?

I have read many times that Pay-Pay isn't going to help the card holder when it comes to renting.

Seems this is only good to get the money to the owner very fast.

Many post about other people thinking this makes it safe for them and finds after joining Pay-Pal and paying their fee's the owner is the one that its worth while to belong to.

I'm not a fan since 2002 and would never use them!

ALWAYS USE AMX..they are very good about disputes. I would not let Mastercard off the hook. They should help out..Lorri

=====================================

PayPal offers absolutely NO protection to the person parting with money in a "non-tangibles" transaction. Rentals are just such "non-tangibles" transactions.

PayPal guarantees prompt payment to the RECIPIENT of the money, but PayPal offers ABSOLUTELY NO protection to the person actually parting with their money in a "non-tangibles" transaction.

NEVER use PayPal to pay for a rental ---- NEVER!!!

It is not paypal but your credit card for a charge back. I have had great success with AMX on this avenue..

This is amazing....I wonder if Jack (OP) ever got his money back. I would assume he would not renew his membership here after that.

Wow, I just joined Redweek today to book a rental... I have just spent the past 1 1/2 hours reading "jackm129" unfortunate SCAM, I have to say I am truly disapointed that I got involved in this SCAM - fortunate for me it only cost $14.99.

These types of scams are few and far between on Redweek ... don't let ONE bad experience from ONE poster prevent you from booking a rental here.

Hi Sharon,

Scams do occasionally happen on RedWeek.com but most transactions are between two honest parties. Makes sure that you and the owner communicate via email and phone to get a feel of each other. Call the resort to make sure they actually own a week there. Sign a rental agreement. But the best way to protect yourself is to use the rental escrow company. If you feel anything strange is going on with any owners please let us know at support@redweek.com.

Thank you, Marty
