Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

timeshares after divorce

Aug 15, 2008

I'm now divorced. We had two weeks of timeshares. My ex and I each got a week in the divorce agreement. How do we now go about taking each others name, off of each others timeshare week? Do we need an Attorney? Thanks

You can perform a quit claim deed each taking an ex-spouses name off the weeks you were granted. To learn more about quit claim deeds, you can do a google search. This is the simplest thing to do in your situation.

Changing the names on your deeds is very easy. Just mimick what your current deed says on a quit claim deed. Also, if you are with one of the chains, they usually have a department that you'll also need to provide your new recorded deed. You will need to contact the Clerk's office to file your deed (the fees are usually minimal) in the county where it is located. Many of the clerks are very helpful, although they are very very careful not to give "legal advice". You can do this. Save yourself the money. Since it seems you are not in a rush, just make sure you do it right. Good luck!
