Fixed vs Floating?

A fixed week is the same week, same unit in the resort every year .... a floating week is a week that you can reserve during a resort's floating schedule IF the week you want is available .... some floating weeks are not necessarily in the same unit every year = floating week, floating unit. Many people choose their floating week many months to a year in advance.

We own 3 timeshares and all are floating... Unless you want to vacation every year at the same time, floating is best.. It allows you to be more flexible with your schedule... Also, we think floating weeks have more value as far as trading it or for resale... The time when a fixed week would be good for example is if you want a July 4th week or a ski week, etc. guaranteed every year at your resort... These prime weeks would also be more costly to buy than an off season week...

We've owned both a floating and a fixed week. MUCH prefer the fixed week as we had already established a vacation "pattern & preference" anyway for that 2nd week in June at Maui. School is out and most people don't really arrive until mid-end of June for summer vacation. We just pull up and walk in the same unit, the same week every year - no phone calls to the Marriott needed what so ever! Best of all, no "phone reservation" dates to remember to "save" our week by or "jockey" our room location for optimum ocean or sunset views, which was a stressful endeavor for reservations as well as upon our very tired arrival day when we owned a floating. One of the best things, our grown kids always know what week to make their flight plans as that they and their children are always welcomed to join us. NO HASSLES!! ;)

Floating is best in our opinion... It is the best of both worlds.. A fixed week limits you to that one week with no flexibility. If you have a float you can pick the week you want every year. Plus floating has more value for trading.. If your week is fixed and you book it and an emergency happens, what if you can't go??? A float can be changed to later in the year....

The downside to a floating week is if you desire a very popular week then you need to reserve it at least a year in advance.
