Timeshares for $0? too good to be true?

It is very possible. Many owners are trying to give their timeshares away just to get out from under the thumb of the maintenance fees. What's more is that some owners are even offering to pay the closing costs and the following year's maintenance fees as an incentive for another person to take over ownership (and the yearly maintenance fees).
If you want to grab one of these free timeshares, just make sure you do your homework. Ask your self "Am I prepared to take on the annual fees which almost invariably rise faster than the rate of inflation?" "What will I do if/when a special assessment comes up (see discussions about Poipu Point in Kauai)?" "Can I accept that it's possible in my case that rentals can easily be found for less than the maintenance fees?" "If i die, will my heirs and executor of my will know what to do with my timeshare?" "Would I know what to do in years that I don't want to or can't go to that resort?" "If 5,10 years down the road, my travel needs and desires change, would I know how to get rid of this timeshare?"
If, after evaluating all the facts, you conclude that owning a timeshare is suitable for your vacation lifestyle, then you are wise to look for some of the fee or very cheap ones out there. But take your time and don't rush into anything. Cheap/free ones will be there for many years to come.
