Renting an exchange property

Nov 11, 2013

I have a timeshare exchange property that I've already exchanged for and I can't use it now, so would like to rent it out - is that something I can do on RedWeek? It's not my timeshare, but a week at another that I've already exchanged for.

You are going to have to check with the company that you used to exchange the week. Most places won't let you rent out a week that you have exchanged. You are the person that exchanged it and the reservation is in your name. You may have other options like cancelling the exchange for a fee and banking the week.

Most exchange companies including RCI and II do not allow members to rent units they got through exchange or through last call/extra vacations. They do monitor sites like redweek (ebay, craigslist, etc) and can cancel the exchange (without any compensation) and even cancel any other confirmed exchanges you have and cancel your membership.

If you can't use an exchange check with the cancellation policy and see if you can get a replacement week. Otherwise you can let family or friends use the week (and they can unofficially compensate as you both see fit under the table) but you should never advertise it as a rental on an open forum or rental site.
