Does it sound realistic?

We are a Canadian couple considering buying 40,000 RCI points from Aviawest Resorts. They told us we can use these points for short term travel and stay at participating hotels such as Sheraton and Hilton, and do it on a short notice too. Does it sound realistic? Is anyone familiar with Aviawest? How easy is it to book properties on a short notice if you want a specific date?

Once you commit yourself to a lifetime of forever increasing maintenance fees and assessments you will also be at the mercy of the resort to book your time . Read through the forums and see how hard it is to get a desirable booking . You can search for rentals without committing yourself to these fees . You will still have to pay these fees even if your life changes and you can no longer afford to travel .

We were members of RCI many years ago. We own a timeshare in Las Vegas and would bank our time in LV so we could go elsewhere through RCI. We could NEVER find availability anywhere through RCI. We dropped our membership. I recommend avoiding RCI if at all possible. Our timeshare location has since changed from a “week” system to a “point” system and they tried to force us to change over with very harsh sales tactics. We refused to change over since doing so also required an RCI membership.
