A lot depends on the timeshare company. Sometimes it depends on the individual resort. Sometimes it depends on the exchange company with which the resort or timeshare is affiliated with. I will assume just for argument's sake that it is the individual resort and it also has high and low seasons. It is usually an indicator of how high the demand is for a week at that time of year. For instance, in the Orlando area during school season, the demand is relatively low so a week in late September might be classified as low season. A week at the same resort in late August when kids are out of school might be medium season. Then spring break might be classified as high season.

As well, it helps determine what kind of trading power that particular week has. So if you own a medium season, it might be hard (or not permitted) to exchange it for a high-season week but easy to exchange for a medium- or low-season week. So if you're looking to buy a week that is medium-season, you should buy one that you are going to use most of the time rather than exchange or try to rent out.
