How to handle VAT when renting a timeshare that is in Mexico

Does anyone know how to handle VAT when renting a timeshare in Mexico from the US? I see it listed in Booking.com, Expedia and other vacation sites. Since I am not a business, or the resort, can it be ignored? Anyone have experience with this?
