Renting time share not protected and verified
I currently am waiting for a final confirmation from a listing where the owner was not protected and verified but accepted credit card which protects me. however, it is going on the 11th day with no final confirmation from the owner. so I am starting to believe the owner does not indeed own the week he is leasing. SO irritating. My vacation plans are hanging in the balance. I am not sure if Owner Verified even matters on proving the owner is legit and not renting an rci week.
I would NEVER even take the risk of renting if a credit card was not method of pmt. just my two cents. I will never rent again from a person who is not verified and protected.

Yes, it matters. The whole purpose of “RedWeek verification” is that RW independently confirms that the advertising entity is in fact the legitimate owner of what they advertise. In short, someone trying to rent out an exchange (a practice clearly prohibited by both RCI and II) could never get a rental listing “RedWeek Verified”, as they obviously cannot provide ownership proof that they simply do not possess in the first place.
That said, it appears that RedWeek has now moved toward requiring that ALL listings get RedWeek Verified. That will provide security for all RedWeek rental listings, but it also creates additional cost for both the owner / advertiser and the renting tenant.

I rent my units without paying the extra fees of P & V and the process is very smooth. I, as an owner always offer to speak by phone as well as be very detailed in the emails sent back and forth. Ask to see the reservation confirmation (should already be in the owner's name) unless it is not an already confirmed week. I believe a confirmed week is the best to rent. Send a message and ask any questions you may have to get to know the owner. Also, owners should always respond back in a timely manner and answer all of your questions.

I don’t know when you last placed a listing on RedWeek, but numerous people have reported in recent weeks (both on this RedWeek site and on Timeshare Users Group) that the “DIY” (unverified) option no longer exists to place a RedWeek listing. I have not personally placed or responded to any listings on RedWeek for over 2 years now, so I cannot personally attest that these recent reports are accurate.

Hi, Yes, you can absolutely still list DIY, they still offer this on Redweek. A renter should always ask for the owner to send them a copy of their Reservation Confirmation. Ask for credentials, don't be shy!! With that said, I really haven't seen any posts about people being scammed on this site.

You're right to be cautious — renting a timeshare isn’t always protected like a hotel booking. It’s important to use trusted platforms, verify the owner or agency, and get everything in writing to avoid scams. Always double-check before making any payments.
