For hundreds of years, the Berkshires have rewarded visitors with a wealth of experiences—from refreshing lakes and invigorating hikes to multiple opportunities for cultural enrichment.
Starting in colonial times, the region has drawn writers (Hawthorne, Melville, Wharton), business titans, renowned artists (Norman Rockwell), and anyone seeking a refreshing retreat for the soul. My wife and I have come to the Berkshires annually over the past several years for all these reasons and more!
We’ve loved evening picnics on the lawn at Tanglewood (where Nathaniel Hawthorne once lived in his cottage and wrote!), drinking in the live music of James Taylor, Paul Simon, and Kool & the Gang. We’ve biked the beautiful Ashuwillticook Rail Trail; taken in the breathtaking, sweeping views atop Mount Greylock (the highest point in Massachusetts); lunched at the historic Red Lion Inn; relished Norman Rockwell’s capture of classic Americana at his museum in Stockbridge; and marveled at the extraordinary collection of artistic masterpieces that even a major capital city would boast to have at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown. Above all, we’ve cherished our visits to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge—once a serene private estate, now an oasis for the soul open to all.
The Berkshires are a truly special place, and Berkshire Mountain Lodge is a wonderful base from which to experience them all. It is clean, quiet, and spacious, featuring a refreshing indoor pool, a relaxing hot tub, a great movie library, and free-to-use washers and dryers to boot! Come here to discover what has drawn so many artists, writers, musicians, and leaders to these hills, and make its treasures your own.
