I am thinking of buying a unit. I know you get a set amount of points per year to use. Are there additional ways to add to that yearly amount of points? Like going to a sales presentation? Thank you.

Not really, unless you purchase an additional resale week or portfoliopoints (which I don’t recommend). However, there are usually people inthe HVC Facebook group with leftover points who will work out a deal withyou. For example, they can book additional nights for you as a guest inexchange for a payment.
