timeshare assistance (by Marie M.):

Most of these companies invite you to a meeting at a local hotel and offer you a free gas card as an incentive for coming. They show a video designed to scare the heck out of you, and often times give inaccurate tax information. The bottom line is that they require YOU to pay THEM thousands of dollars to take the timeshare off your hands (usually between $3500-3995). The timeshare must be paid up in full (no outstanding mortgage or loan) and the maintenence fees and Special Assessments, if any, must be paid up to date.

They used to accept any timeshare under this scenerio but in recent years they have developed a long list of resorts and weeks they will not accept because the chance of reselling them, even for $1.00 on Ebay, is slim to nil.

If the week you would like to be rid of is not on the "reject" list, presumably it has resale value. You should try to sell it yourself through an ad here on Redweek, or at MyResortNetwork.com, and/or the Timeshare Users Group www.tug2.net. If that is not suceessful, then consider listing at www.Ebay.com.
