My last trip was the first week of December 08. No, I don't take a full size cooler. I take a rolling cooler with the pull up handle like a suitcase and bring it as a carry on. There's enough room in it, and yet small enough to fit in an overhead compartment. We had 5 adults this last trip.
I would not recommend tape as they will probably cut it for security inspection. Straps would be my suggestion.
