Damage liability to timeshare rental

Nov 10, 2008

What if the renter damages the timeshare property? What recourse does the owner have in this case, and is the owner responsible for damages?

Ultimately, the owner is responsible for the damage. Upon checkin, a guest usually has to provide a credit card to the resort. If there is damage to the unit, the resort will might charge the damages to the credit card on file. If the guest refuses to pay or disputes the damages, the resort will go back to the owner. The owner would be responsible for the damage and he/she would need to go after the renter for reimbursement.
