Marriott Timeshare resales

Jun 08, 2010

We were told by a Marriott salesperson that "black market" sales (anything sold outside of Marriott) would receive greatly reduced services and availability." In other words Marriott is trying to inhibit the private resale market. We understand that when you buy on the secondary market you cannot get the "points" but has anybody heard about restricting availability and owner services? Also, the guy said the only way to buy was through "Marriott Resales" - we cannot find "Marriott Resales" anywhere? What do you know?

From what I gather, the perks that come with buying directly from Marriott are not worth the extra money .... buying resale is the way to go .... you can find resales on Redweek, Ebay and other timeshare ad sites.

Most developer sales reps (including Marriott) try to discredit (or deny the existence of) the resale market, simply because these salespeople make their living on commissions, selling retail at inflated prices. Virtually everything this lying sales weasel told you is false. Also, the resale market is not a "black market" in any way, shape or form.

Marriott has historically exercised ROFR (right of first refusal) on resales. Marriott has the legal right to review each any and every resale transaction, and Marriott can exercise the right the buy it back themselves at the agreed resale price, thereby eliminating that potential resale buyer. Currently however, in this weak and sour economy, Marriott rarely exercises that ROFR. If you can find a Marriott resale you like, ignore all the nonsense spouted by that sales weasel and GO FOR IT, because the sales weasel fairy tales "just ain't so"...
