Cancun Royal Resort sold to Holiday Inn Vacation Clubs

Our beloved Royal Resort in Cancun was sold to HIVC. We have owned a deeded week for over 40 years and love it. Anticipating a heavy sales presentation (again) to convert to points. Has anyone doen this and been happy with HIVC points? Can I keep our deeded week and just buy points to use elsewhere? They don't seem to have many properties based on a search.
