Having just spent two great weeks in Cancun and Merida, my wife and I arrived at the Cancun airport ready to head home to the States, only to be told by Alaska Airlines that our flight was overbooked and would we be willing to be bumped for another flight out the next evening. The airline set us up at the Omni hotel and Villas in a hotel room for the evening. The stay was among one of the best experiences of our vacation. This even though one week previously we had stayed in Cancun at the highly rated Royal Sands. The Omni hotel is top class with well appointed and tastily decorated rooms. Our room overlooked the lagoon and had a very ample balcony. Staff was extremely friendly and very professional. Unique to resorts in Cancun Island, the Omni sits on a hill that the architects and planners have used effectively in laying out the resort with pools cascading down to the beach. This provides for changing and memorable vistas from different parts of the complex. All the pools were well maintained and had unique features like waterfalls and built-in loungers in the pools. The resort is oriented to be able to catch beautiful sunrises from the ocean horizon (which we were lucky to see) and the sunsets over the lagoon.
The airline also covered our dinner and breakfast. We were able to have the all inclusive dinner buffet which had an Italian theme that evening. The food was delicious, of good quality, varied and plentiful. Had drinks at the DaVinci restaurant which was quite elegant and romantic with a harp player with views of the ocean and coastline. After catching the sunrise the next morning we had breakfast at La Paloma restaurant, a Palapa (thash) pavilion on the beach. From any point in the restaurant one has a beautiful panoramic ocean view. Staff at La Paloma was very attentive and again the food was delicious, fresh varied and plentiful. It is very apparent that the resort is well maintained by the large numbers of maintenance staff overseeing every detail. And it is very apparent that the staff is very content as they go about their assignments. My wife insisted that we return to the Omni on our next trip to Cancun. I concurred.

Very nice hotel with great pools, FANTASTIC, FRIENDLY and ATTENTIVE staff. I like the beach in this part of Cancun because we like playing in the waves, which cannot be done at hotels on the sheltered side. We were somewhat disappointed in the beach size which is about 1/4 what it used to be pre Hurricane Wilma. The staff at Aqua World outside by the pool made us feel very welcome especially Alex and Enrique were great! The buffet is good, DiVincys the on site fine Restaurant is great and the PinaCollada beach restaurant is a nice place for breakfast and lunch. Would highly recommend this Hotel. WARNING if you book tours don't do it online, you will spend days just trying to track them down. Best advice don't book online tours, I got this from the staff at the hotel. The only thing that I can say negative about this place is that the beaches are barely a quarter size they were pre hurrican Wilma.

Excellent resort. The Pool was outstanding... Built in lounge chairs in pool made relaxing poolside a pleasure. The kids enjoyed water volleyball. Breakfast down at the ocean restaurant was very nice. Excellent location for families, close enough to everything but far enough away from the college party scene. Would go back in a minute.
When you get off the airplane, watch out for the timeshare sales people. We didn't have any problems with them. Just ignore them and go directly outside the terminal to your transportation.
