Just returned from Villas on the Green through RCI exchange. This is a beautiful resort. We were worried there's nothing to do "out there" after reading the "mixed" reviews. Boy, were we wrong! There were plenty of activities for the young and the old at the resort as well as in the area. It is such a wonderful place for vacation. (I am not an owner so this is not a biased statement ;)
Pros: 1. Great location...close to the freeway, yet in the quiet setting, and all San Diego attractions are less than 30 mins of drive. 2. Buildings are spread out, not all cramped together. 3. Ample of parking spaces. 4. Great recreation centers and pools (5 total?) Waterslide was a big hit. 5. BBQ grills all over...love it!! 6. Friendly staff...not pushing to sell 7. Spacious unit with large balcony. 8. Beautiful golf course...
Cons: I can think of two only.. 1.Extra charge for using internet if your computer dials outside 706 area code..0( (In this age, all internet should be FREE!) 2. No elavator - was difficult to carry the luggages and the ice chest up the staris.
Would we go back again? You bet!

We spent two weeks in August at the Villas on the Greens. You do need a car to enjoy the area, but we were more than happy with that. The 1 bedroom villa was very spacious with a large balcony overlooking the fountain and greens; it had plenty of patio furniture. There was plenty of storage space in the kitchen too. The resort was busy at this time of year and we never had a problem with finding somewhere to park. Although our unit was located opposite the clubhouse with the waterpark, I preferred the adult only pool on Broadway Hill, which was always virtually empty in the early evening.
The resort staff were extremely helpful with making bookings for the theatre and excursions and with suggestions for places to visit. We had the greatest fun visiting the wineries in the Temecula Valley.
Overall an excellent resort. 4 stars because a) we could hear the freeway from our unit (not massively invasive, but a little annoying and b) because the excellent supermarkets were quite a long way away from the resort.

I don't know what kind of a grunge bmb11 is (rated July 11, 2007). There is a fantastic restaurant, a huge waterpark, and all kind of activities. He says no parking, no parks, no activities!!!) He needs to get a life.
We go there twice a year as owners and rent out our lockoff each year with no problem. We own 5 timeshares, all gold crowns, and this is our favorite. Wouldn't trade it for any place else as we have tried many other Gold Crown resorts and not nearly as nice as this one.

We stayed here in late October 2006 and loved it so much that we bought a week.
We are in our late 50's and found the area (We LOVE San Diego) and the resort itself so full of a variety of things to do, that we couldn't wait to make our first reservation to go back. Having admitted our advanced age, we actually purchased this week with our ever expanding family in mind. The units are top notch and SO SPACIOUS! And there is so much on offer for every age group.
We have 3 grown children, 2 of whom are married and the youngest slowly approaching the same status, and 2 grandchildren (1-yr-old twins).
We are what some might consider Marriott "fanatics" as we own several Marriott TS weeks and found the 2-BDRM unit we bought at this resort to be even more spacious than the 2-BDRM units at Desert Springs Villas I and II, (each are phase I) that we have in Palm Desert (another one of our favorite places to vacation).
The smaller unit of our lock-off at Welk is so much bigger than the one in our lock-off unit in Palm Desert, that it's more like a smaller 1- BDRM than a Studio or Guest Suite, which the smaller unit in Palm Desert is designated as.
I was "johnny-on-the spot" when it came time to reserve our week and managed to lockin the larger 1-BDRM unit for Christmas week 2007, with the idea that daughter, son-in-law and twin grandchildren, as well as single son, would join us.
The smaller 1-BDRM lock-off unit I reserved for the following week (NEW YEAR'S week) for the 2 of us to enjoy on our own.
As fate would have it, though, we've had to change plans and are now reduced to depositing it with an exchange Co. or renting it out. Oh, how I hate to give this up! I only hope we can plan the same trip for next year and get the holiday weeks again.
We never had a problem with parking when we were there but it wasn't during the summer. We enjoyed the meals we had at the restaurant on site and several times , a relaxing drink in the bar before dinner. I hope they still have their buffet dinner nights - they were sooo good. Lots of choices with delicious roast beef and fantastic seafood.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend everything about this resort (did I mention free internet access stations in the club room?) and can't wait to go back. Might even learn to play golf, after all.
It's a great place for a vacation.

We were there the week of 7/7/07 and prior to that we were there in 2003. Lots of improvements since 2003 and can't wait to go back. So much to do, you don't even need to leave to have the Resort to have a great time. It is a wonderful and entertaining resort for our 4 Boys. Our Unit was on the Lake so the kids fished as much as possible. I hear there is a New Welk Resort in the makings in Mexico,on the beach. Would love to visit that one also,

I was there the week after bmb11 wrote his review. I have to totally disagree...except for the parking (there is NO parking). There is a small market, Pizza Hut and restaurant on the the property. They give you a guide with pages and pages of daily activities at the four recreation centers so there is plenty to do for people of all ages. The pool tables, ping pong and air hockey are all free. They have bikes, pool rafts, movies and video games to rent. The golf shop has free lessons. There is great live theater and movies by the pool. We love it here, but if bmb11 never comes back, that will free up one parking spot for us! Avoid the Fourth of July when "day use" is extremely high. You do need a car to enjoy the area, but Vons Market is not that far of a drive and the mall is only 15 minutes away for some retail therapy. Most attractions are 30 minutes from the resort (Legoland, the world famous zoo, Sea World and the Wild Animal Park). Disneyland is an hour and a half away. The have tours to the casino, J Paul Getty Museum and Mexico. The staff is nice and brought us everything we asked for. This resort is on the same level as the Westin Mission Hills in Ranch Mirage, CA. Read the reviews for the Lawrence Welk Resort Villas also. They share all the same recreation areas.

This is a beautiful family resort. Our kids loved it here when they were younger. Lots of pools and activities. Having stayed at this resort 7 times in the last 5 years and several times at the original resort (Lawrence Welk Resort) in prior years I've noticed several changes in the Villas on the Greens. As the price to purchase has increased (from $17K to $45k) the number of condo buildings have increased and the number of parking spaces per condo building have not. There are not enough parking spaces next to each building for each unit to park. This causes lots of frustration on check in/check out days with cars blocking. Buildings are three stories and have stairs. Amenities are great. Units are nice and are lock off. The small 1 BR has a nice layout without a washer/ dryer. Prior to the demise of the old hotel and W restaurant guests in the small 1BR did not pay for laundry. Now they do including purchasing laundry detergent. Guests in the large 1BR have a washer/dryer and are given laundry detergent. Last summer supplies seemed to be in short supplies and getting dishwasher detergent was difficult. There was an onsite grocery. ice cream store and pizza place that was removed which made our last two visits difficult as the nearest grocery was not close and the convenience of food and snacks was lost.

Visited in the fall of 2004. We stayed right across from the waterpark which was great since it was hard to get the kids to leave. Beautiful area. Lots to do on and off site. This is one of the best resorts we have stayed at. The only complaint we had was the constant construction right next door. The daily activities were geared to all ages and were plentiful. The resturant on site is delicious no need for multiple venues. Close to San Diego and the beaches with great freeway access but far enough away to do a little back road exploring too! Very nice place plain and simply stated.

Stayed July 2005, lots of construction going on, not very many options for food. Grocery is close. Golf is ok, not very challenging. Website does not give accurate information. Great place for kids. Potential is high. Front office was not the best. Over-rated
