The scammers themselves have probably changed names and disappeared, but this entity attempts to get redress from the credit card company with the belief that they should be questioning these charges. (No, he did not ask me my credit card number!) This firm was trying to find people who could document recent losses of this sort and was building a list of up-front fee companies. (I didn't qualify.)I suggested that, if this was on the up and up, discussion boards such as this were an ideal way to get feed-back on bad experiences such as he was seeking. He was interested but thought he had better check with his firm about the legalities of doing this. Maybe we will be seeing something regarding this here if he gets a thumbs up. Might this have something to do with the investigation by the Florida Attorney General Ken mentions? MD
This looks like just another scam for getting an upfront fee .... more than likely past employees of upfront fee resale companies that aren't making money because people are now being educated on their scams. Anyone can do what they claim to do and file a dispute themselves with their credit card company within a 60 day period.
BOTTOM LINE, DO NOT PAY ANY TYPE OF UPFRONT FEE FOR ANY TYPE OF TIMESHARE SERVICE OFFERED NO MATTER WHAT THEY MAY PROMISE OR HOW PERSUASIVE THEY MAY SOUND. IT LOOKS LIKE IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE THESE DAYS TO PUT TOGETHER A WEBSITE. THE WEBSITE LEGALASSISTANCETEAM.COM HAS A 2010 DATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THEIR WEBSITE PAGE.
In looking over the legalassistanceteam.com website, it looks like a hastily put together website with spelling errors such as "Click Here Fraudulant timeshare companies are using some well known conpany (should be company) names in their title in order to fool you, the consumer."
"We will be mnore (should have been more) than happy to give you the answers you deserve."
Phrases such as "We are a consumer advocacy group that fights diligently you...the consumer", it should have read "We are a consumer advocacy group that fights diligently FOR you ...the consumer.
Also, their refund policy (refund of what ?????) is as clear as mud:
Refund Policy
In signing this agreement you are agreeing to pay the Legal Assistance Team (LAT) a service fee. The Legal Assistance Team service fee is a percentage of monies retrieved in the form of credit adjustment, check or cash refund. The fee for services shall be due and payable upon credit being issued to Client.
In the case the Legal Assistance Team is not able to keep your credits permanent we will refund the pro-portioned amount from the fee to the reversed credit amount. Venue and Jurisdiction for all actions to enforce the terms and conditions of the agreement shall be a state or federal court of competent jurisdiction located at Broward County, Florida.
You have three days to cancel as long as no disputes have been opened.
Should it become necessary for the Legal Assistance Team to retain counsel to enforce its rights under this agreement, Client agrees to pay all reasonable cost incurred by the Legal Assistance Team, including attorney's fees.
