One sees quite a few folks on RedWishes pleading for resort spots when they already have non-refundable air tickets. They usually want Christmas or some other high value week for pocket change. If they have waited too long, of course, all the money in the world may not be enough to get the date they need. There was/is a fellow getting married in Mexico who was only able to get mid-week air tickets. To the best of my knowledge, Full weeks all start on the weekends. And he is offering $200. This is likely to be a short marriage. MD

Your right! I hated to make a long post even longer but I was worried John took my post the wrong way!

This short time period is like which came first the chicken or the egg.

When you plan a vacation at last minute do you get flight or condo first.

Someone wanting a holiday are out of their mind if they wait around for a cheap week in a busy area of resorts!

For me if it was Hawaii I would always get flight and rental car first! You can always come up with place to stay but it may cost you!

We own so we plan ahead and have never needed the plan Dale uses. He not only doesn't own one but would never buy one because his way is cheaper and easier just renting every year!

========== If it were a week in Hawaii or any hard to get time and location, I would definitely nail down the resort first and several months out. Then immediately follow up with the air. There are more flights available than resorts and if worse come to worse and you have to come a day early or even a day late, you can still work it out. One night in a hotel won't kill you. (You can probably get 2 nights free if you attend a presentation!) Don't recall ever having a problem getting a rental car.

We seldom do a trip at the last minute but if we did, we'd probably get something we could drive to. Or you can hold a condo for a few hours while you check on air. I'd never risk scheduling unrefundable air before knowing exactly where I was going to land.

Actually, we have a condo set in Spain right now followed by a cruise out of Barcelona and have not quite figured out the air yet. Some of the schedules involved don't seem to go out that far ahead yet. (Mid October) Hope we can finalize this week. Might involve train from Lisbon! Or bus. Or hand cart. MD

Sounds like great vacation! I was mainly thinking of Hawaii because John was talking about Hawaii!

I have never had problem with air or car but also plan well ahead for Hawaii!

I have seen post about rental cars falling short during Holidays though!

I have made last minute trips to Hawaii couple times . This was during the eight years away from timeshares so one call booked hotel/air/car.

I also would try last minute only where we could drive! This way a quick vacation wouldn't be wasted because no air or high cost!
