Timeshare Companies

Hyatt vacation club

I am interested in what experience people have had with this organization, since they are relatively new at this. I am contemplating a ts at Pinon Point in Sedona.

We just bought a ts at Pinon Pointe in Sedona. I dropped out of a Westin timshare purchase on Maui three years ago since their system just didn't make sense to me cost-wise. But this one I am keeping. The Hyatt system seems a lot more flexible and lucrative, especially when you buy at a resort that's less expensive and has low maintenence costs. We bought a Platinum week - 2 bedroom - biennual - worth 2000 points. We are more interested in our points than in this particular week, even though we did like the Sedona resort a lot. From doing a lot of research on TS companies, the Hyatt properties looked by far the most appealing to us. It may be difficult to get into their ski resorts at certain weeks, but we are not crazy skiers, so this won't be a problem for us. We were told (by Hyatt and by other owners) that all we need to do - when we want to take advantage of our points - is book far in advance. Since we have an 8 year-old daughter, we have to do that anyway. We're also planning to take advantage of Intervale International. We haven't found a lot of resorts that look appealing to us (we are somewhat picky when it comes to the interior design of resort rooms - most look terribly dated), but there are some that appear to be nice and somewhat tasteful and we are planning to give the Hyatt reservation center at least 3 resort options when we want to book outside the Hyatt system.

We are looking forward to our first TS vacation. 2000 points could get us two 1-bedroom (beach) vacations through Intervale each year or one 1-bedroom vacation in a Hyatt and maybe another midweek 4-day special in another Hyatt resort. We figured, if it's any timeshare company, then it's this one. And Sedona is a bargain compared to most of their other properties.

we are brand new owners at pinon pointe in sedona and am wondering if anyone can comment on their experience with this resort and the Hyatt system.

In response to Marks comment about the interior design of most rooms...the pictures on their websites are often quite old and may not reflect what they currently look like. I know this from experience because we have bought several "getaways" for Marriott's Desert Springs property and Villas II were recently renovated and Villas I are currently beginning remodeling. I would suggest that if any getaways appeal to you, that you call that property directly and ask them when they last updated the furnishings in the units. I have similar concerns about the quality inside and would not hesitate to call and ask this.

I do not know if there is still interest in this topic, but in case there is I will provide some input on our experience. We purchased a 2 bedroom unit at Hyatt Pinon Pointe for week 52 (a Diamond week) in 2006. We had visited Sedona previously and liked the area. Although we had no prior experience with owning a timeshare, and only one prior sales pitch (from Marriott), the Hyatt sales pitch at Sedona seemed fair. The availability of options on how to use points also seemed reasonable: within the Hyatt system, converting Hyatt Gold Passport, or depositing in Interval International. To date, we have been pleased with our Hyatt time share exchange options. So far, we have used some of our points for a Hyatt Sunset Harbor (Key West, FL) vacation in May, 2007, and will be going to the Hyatt Highlands Inn (Carmel, CA) in early December of this year (2008), and back to Sedona in late January, 2009. We also stayed at our home unit in Sedona over the 2007/2008 New Year's week (our home week). In short, we have been able to use the majority of our points for nice stays at some of the Hyatt Vacation Club Properties. We also deposited some points into Interval International, but have not yet been very successful in finding a really good use for them. Since the Interval International points expire at the end of this year, we are hoping to plan something (soon!) for a trip sometime in 2009.
