We stayed at the Imperial Hawaii the week of May 5, 2007. What
a wonderful location--within walking distance to shopping, the full
length of Waikiki Beach, great restaurants, the tour-bus station as
well as public buses. Having the ABC store right below was a real
boon because we never had to go elsewhere to do grocery
shopping (we eat/assemble only breakfasts and lunches in the
unit). The Imperial is just a few hundred feet from the new
Beachwalk street of shops and restaurants, a pleasant place to
stroll (complete with tiki torches at night) with some nice
alternative restaurants, including a NY-style deli that is as good for
breakfast as any other meal. Ready access to hotels like the
Outrigger, just a short block away, meant access to some
reasonably priced (as HI goes) buffet and a la carte meals.
Though we'd exchanged for an efficiency apartment, we opted to
upgrade to the one-bedroom/2-bath Palm room (unit 1603). This
particular room and the rooms forward of it from floors 15-up had
a nice and unexpected ocean view because the blocking building is
only three stories at that point. The unit was small (we could
barely walk around the queen-sized bed) but adequate. (The
Imperial was reminiscent of an all-suite hotel turned condo.)
Though the kitchen appliances and cabinetry could use some
updating, the unit was freshly painted and carpeted.
We never lacked for supplies or linens and the staff was responsive
and helpful (brought a new coffeemaker at 5:00 a.m. to replace
ours). The travel desk had any tour we could want and staff was
efficient and competent--and, in one case, super helpful--in
making reservations. The upper-deck pool was too windy for our
use, but we never had time to use it anyway.
As a veteran condo owner/exchanger, I give this resort a 4 (not a
5) rating only because of its age and smaller sized rooms. Would
definitely go back.
