I can't wait to get back to the Galleon and Key West. I've stayed there a handful of
times in the last five years and I understand the reasons people don't want to give up
their week(s) at the resort. The location alone justifies giving it five stars, with
gorgeous gulf views just steps from the historic seaport and blocks from Mallory Square
and Duval Street. The perfect location - you're moments from the action, yet you have a
quiet and tranquil retreat.
A few words about the resort: I gave the resort five stars for overall experience. It's not
a five-star resort. I have stayed in many four- and five-diamond AAA-rated resorts,
including Ritz-Carltons, so I have fairly high standards. That said, there's nothing lacking
in the Galleon. The room furnishings, though dated, are comfortable enough (though I'd
love to see new sofas in the living area), and I've always found them clean. And the 2-BR
condos offer plenty of space. I've never been disappointed at the Galleon.
I've always found the lunch buffet adequate, as well. Depending on the day, hot dogs &
burgers or BBQ chicken, baked beans, chips seem the standard offering. Nothing
gourmet, but well worth a few bucks when you're satisfied spending the day lounging
pool- or gulf-side.
