Fantastic property with great amenities! Perfect for families.
Fantastic vacation!! Four Seasons service and amenities. Daily maid service. Great weather. Amazing timeshare.
We currently own 2 weeks here and find it to be second to none. Attention to detail and service is exceptional which is what made us purchase our second week. We also own in Westin Ka'anapali and Westin Kierland, but find this one to be the most meticulously maintained and service is far beyond both Westin and Marriott. I would totally agree with the following review: if you stay here, Westin and Marriott will never be above 3 or 4 stars. There absolutely is no comparison with the service of the Four Seasons. From the robes, to the daily maid service and acknowledgement of owners on arrival, they really don't miss a beat. This was my first time share purchase, and we have been enjoying San Diego for over 12 years. Every year it is like coming home. Considering purchasing more weeks, and now that my daughter has grown and is out of school, interestingly enough, this is her favorite property of all. She literally grew up around legoland, SeaWorld and the Zoo, but now is a surfer down in mission bay. Something to do for everyone of all ages. Highly recommended. You will NOT be disappointed.
Lets start with the most important piece: In my opinion, this is one of the top 3 time shares in the United States.
I have three small children and we all love being here (and just finished a two week stay). The units are modern, immaculate (no bad grout, no mold in the corners, no gunk built up in the refrigerator). This is largely explained because you get the benefit of daily maid service which is HUGE! New towels, dishes done, tidied, its great. There is a DVR in the living room, 3 three screens, 3 showers, fully equipped kitchen, bbqs near each unit, and parking is right next to your unit.
The facilities are always great, two dining options from the Four Seasons, three from the Hyatt, access to their kids club, tennis, etc. And you are just minutes from many great restaurants, the beach, and Legoland. And you are still very proximate to the rest of San Diego's resorts. The concierge team is amazing and they will go really out of their way to get you a reservation or activity.
You can read the rest but there is a reason this is consistently a 5 star by everyone. And to anyone who says Marriott has 5 star properties, stay here and Marriott will never see anything higher than a three from you again!
Within a tranquil natural sanctuary, Spanish colonial-style villas combine the effortless lifestyle of Four. Year after year, play Arnold Palmer golf, tennis, and indulge in the areas finest dining pleasures. This vacation-home opportunity remains available only to a limited few. Welcome to life at its best!
We own both Westin and Marriott timeshare but trading in to this property was the luckiest thing that ever happened to us!! After trading in several times we recently purchased a 2-bedroom Gold Season week and have just used it for the first time as owners. It is even better as an owner because you know that you are coming back again and again!
Absolutely everything is just perfect. The sheets are lovely, soft and feel just perfect and the daily maid service is so nice. We own a lot of Westin timeshare and the service and quality has gone seriously downhill on Maui where we own in terms of cleanliness, service and even the beds. Not here. Everything is truly first class and yet the maintenance is actually lower than my Westin Kannapalli North or South Ocean Front units. My last stay on Maui last January I felt that I was at home dealing with maintenance issues like leaking air conditioning flooding the rugs, broken toilets, broken springs on the beds and such. We kept complaining to the management and were told they had no other rooms but over our 4 week stay, all the rooms had similar problems. I do not believe that this property would ever have that happen. It is clear that the staff cares, does a wonderful job of staying on top of things and everything is absolutely spotless - inside and out. We had an amazing stay and were sorry to leave!
There is never a feeling of being crowded here. The staff is amazing and when we came back to our room one evening, we found a birthday cake for our Grandson who was staying with us! Such a nice touch!! Do take time to drive to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. It is about a 30 minute drive and is well worth the time to see giraffes, rhinos, elephants and an amazing number of animals all living together on 1000+ acres of land. Their photo safari caravan is a wonderful 3 1/2 hour experience where you can drive through the space with a guide in a small truck and stop and film and feed the animals as you learn about them. They also have exhibits of lions and the cutest pair of tiger cubs you'd ever want to see! This is a very special place.
The most beautiful and relaxing timeshare I have ever been in. Great for families-playground on site, beautiful walking around resort, separate TS gameroom hotel game room, the front desk even loaned us an Xbox (I think, not a Wii-the other big name gaming system) with a couple games for our boys-no charge. Pools were warm and never crowded, jacuzzi was huge, there is a steam room in the lady's bathroom. Everything is first rate and the staff fabulous.
The units are beautiful, well laid out, daily maid service, with coffee and tea refreshed daily. The maintenance fees are very high-but absolutely worth it. You will love the resort, the hotel's restaurant, and the area. Great premium outlet mall, Carlsbad flower fields, Legoland and Legoland's aquarium, beautiful, wide and lifeguarded beaches nearby, and Carlsbad has a really cute downtown area. Carlsbad is ideally located if you want to go to either LA or SD. San Diego proper is much closer than LA, and an easy drive or train ride. Kids loved taking the train-very easy getting to Old Town and Downtown. A great resort, and vacation area!
NEW: A new development is that the property owner has turned management of the on-site hotel over to Hyatt, though Four Seasons continues to manage the Residence Club. However, residence club members will continue to have full access to hotel facilities. Not yet sure how matters like tennis and golf will sort out. An important development!
ORIGINAL: We purchased our fourth Four Seasons Residence Club week at Aviara in 2003. The nightly musical entertainment in the lounge is a particular plus with this resort, which is still expanding.
A wonderful place to be - we like the location north of San Diego. The property was originally a failed Japanese development venture that was sitting idle, and some have criticized the location as "other than world class." However, we like the relatively slow pace of life north of San Diego compared to the hustle of Los Angeles and San Francisco.
I will add that we purchased our week at Aviara through SmartChoice Timeshare Realty, and their service was knowledgable and entirely professional.
I have voiced concern for some time at the limited exchange program offered by Four Seasons, compared to other hotel-based competitors such as Westin and Marriott, and also compared to competitors at the high end, such as Exclusive Resorts. Additionally, the new developments at Jackson Hole and Costa Rica are no longer on a traditional "timeshare" model, making exchanges at those locations considerably more difficult. An alternative way of facilitating exchange seems so far not to have been considered by Four Seasons.
However, I find that this situation has recently begun to improve. An expanded exchange program includes access to several western mountain resorts, to Villa La Estancia in Cabo San Lucas, to the Phillips Club in New York City, and also, recently, on a limited basis to available condominium units at Four Seasons Great Exuma through 2007. There is also talk that some new residence clubs will adhere to the original Aviara/Scottsdale model, for example, a development planned in Orlando at Celebration (no specific date provided).
The lack of exchange options for settings of equivalent quality has in my opinion always been the greatest drawback to the Four Seasons Residence Club program. Perhaps the company is now addressing this concern with some seriousness.
This resort if fabulous! The best of any we have traded into in 25 years. It is truly a 4 Seasons experience and we loved it. We own two Marriotts and a Disney but this was better than any place we have gone.
We exchanged the week of our daughter's wedding in San Diego, and the girls wedding party had their "girls night out", there the night before the wedding as well as got ready for the wedding there. It was very nice for them as well as us! We felt pampered, and the unit was a 5 star standard. We loved our stay and would like to go back someday.
We bought a large one bedroom last year and we stayed their in Feb. Excellent timeshare property and everything has top quality. We are not worried about hotel management change as we bought it at very cheap price ($4200). And the recent news even made this deal better. Below is the email I received from Four Seasons regarding the change.
June 2, 2010
Dear Residence Club Owner,
I would like to take the opportunity to update you on the very positive meetings we have had over the past several weeks with Park Hyatt Hotels regarding the change in hotel management that will take place on June 21, 2010. As you already know, the change affects the hotel only, and Four Seasons will continue to manage Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara with its own employees and with the same high standards as always.
I am pleased to report that access to the hotelâs facilities and amenities will continue uninterrupted. This means that Residence Club owners will enjoy the same access to the golf course, tennis courts, restaurants, spa, fitness facilities, pools, game room and childrenâs programs as before. In addition, the current golf packages and promotions being offered to Residence Club owners will continue to be available.
Over the past month, I have had the pleasure of speaking with many of you individually and have appreciated your feedback. I want to thank you for your patience and support during this time and assure you that Four Seasons is as committed as ever to ensuring that your experience at the Residence Club remains consistent with the high level of Four Seasons service and care that you have enjoyed in the past.
I am attaching a short list of frequently asked questions and answers that may offer additional information about the change in hotel management and its impact on the Residence Club. We will continue to keep you updated on any important developments and, as always, please feel free to contact me if there is anything you would like to discuss.

We had a phenomenal time at Four Seasons Aviara. Perfect weather, an idealic environment, and an exceptionally welcoming staff made our stay most enjoyable. We had a one bedroom villa that was spacious and beautifully appointed; everything we could have possibly needed was there (from 10 aesthetic wine glasses in the kitchen cupboard to a gourmet knife set). The resort's multiple pools kept our pre-school daughter excited with new areas in which to explore and left my husband and me to taste-test tropical drinks in each location (Todd, at the hotel's main pools, makes and exceptional strawberry pina colada). If you have children, this is an extremely kid-friendly place. The Fours-Season's complimentary childcare service for children ages 4+ is a bonus and all of the restaurants are super accommodating to young ones.
We rented our villa from Edgar and Odette Santos who couldn't have ben more gracious in preparing us for our stay. From making certain the reservation was in order to answering a multitude of questions, Edgar and Odette were terrific.
I couldn't ask for a better vacation!
rented a wk there, and to paraphase Dennis Greene, "It was what we thought it would be." Staff was excellent, all amenities first class (esp the golf course), and San Diego in December, wow! Inexpensive it isn't, but worth the cost. Argyle's restaurant in the golf course the best of the restaurant litter, we tried them all....definitely get the chocolate lava surprise cake, feeds four easily for dessert. Breakfast Egg Soufles were great at the Starbucks knockoff, $8 for two and two lattes(High Grounds) JakesDel Mar for sunset and fish dinner, drinks at L'Berge, Kitchen 1540, outside at their firepit! But don't bother eating there, food very spotty.
Note to Military or military retirees...the Naval Air Station North Island on Coronado has reduced golf rates, kinda like playing Pebble Beach for under $40 with two holes right along the beach, one of the top rated beaches in the world...ID card, driver's liscense, and rental car agreement gets you thru the gate. Also camp Pendleton has a great course, same deal to get in, just make sure you pick the back gate off Douglas Ave to go in...the course is like a little oasis in the midst of barren wasteland...makes up for the Four Seasons course at $145 twilight, but it is a stunner Arnold Palmer design and worth it. Did not play Miramar, but heard it has recently been redone. If you want to play Torrey Pines, schedule at least 8 days in advance, tough to get on.
While it is true that Four Seasons will continue to operate and manage the Residence Clubs, the hotel dispute has to have some impact on the values of the timeshares. It all depends on what value you place on the amenities of the adjacent hotel. If the Aviara Hotel becomes managed by Dolce and not Four Seasons and/or the usage by the Residence Club guests are restricted this will have an impact.
This is a wonderful resort and property we have been coming to for years, but the future is a little uncertain. Buyers do need to be aware of this.
bmb11 is incorrect. The hotel owners are in arbitration with the Four Seasons but the residence club is under LONG TERM CONTRACT WITH FOUR SEASONS. The resort continues to be a first class Four Seasons property.
There were articles in the local news a month ago that Four Seasons has dropped their affiliation with Aviara, but the Aviara still tries to use the high reputation of Four Seasons to attract buyers. The value of these timeshares will drop significantly in the near future, if not already.
Just came back from the Four Seasons Aviara. It really is the best! Their service is incomparable. The grounds are really beautiful and huge. Their Italian restaurant onsite, Vivace, is excellent. For $44 a person, you get an appetizer, an entry, and desert. It's not cheap, but for the quality of food, the service, and the views, it's really a great value. Everyone from the person at the front desk, to the concierge, to the person who answers housekeeping is gracious, and makes the guests feel really welcomed. You get a free newspaper everyday, and daily housekeeping. They provide free gourmet coffee in the mornings in the lobby, and you can also check out DVDs for free from there. Unlike other timeshares that save on personal care products, the Four Seasons provide Bvlgari lotion/soaps, etc. The suite is about 300 - 400 sq. feet in size, furnished with a good size flat panel screen TV (32-in?), and a floor to ceiling window that looks out to the garden-like golf course (in our case). I just can't say enough good things about it...
There is a nice premium outlet in Carlsbad, about 10 minutes away, and many scenic attractions. The location is easy to find, and if you can avoid traffic hours on I-5, the drive there is about 2 hours from 2 LA.
Wonderful resort. Well appointed and large spacious rooms. Staff is very helpful and daily housekeeping is great. Definately the most upscale resort we have traded into--after 14 years of trading timeshares!! Traffic can be an issue here and must be factored in for day trips. Would love to come here again. Judy
We purchased one week of Four Season Residence Club 2 months ago. We love it so much that we are in the process of purchasing our second week. The service is impeccable, the grounds are beautiful and very kids and pet friendly. A+++
My wife and I stayed at the Meadows 6/8/07- 6/15/07. If you want a beautiful place to stay and just relax THIS IS IT! We felt totally pampered at the tranquility pool. It was not at all crowded. The restaurants were very good. Thirty minutes from downtown San Diego if you drive at the right time of day. A great stay we will go back.
Just stayed at this resort and must say it is very nice. Went first week of October and stayed in the Meadows building, probably only 10 people at the pool at a time, very relaxing.
Units are large and have everything you would need and the staff is attentive to try to help with anything extra you may need.
EXCELLENT RESORT!! TRUE 5 STARS IN ALL AREAS!! CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK AGAIN!!!
Simply the best timeshare anywhere!
We bought a 2 BR week sight unseen based on the reputation of 4 Seasons hotels. After spending a week there in the first week of August 05, we were so delighted that we bought another 2 BR Unit week.
The resort is absolutely fabulous. My children had a great time in the Hotel's game room, pools and the tennis courts. We loved the exclusive neighborhood and the unparalleled quality of service and attention to detail. The maintenance fees are a bit steep, but worth every penny if you see what you get for it.
We are awaiting their Costa Rica and Mexico Residence Clubs to be completed so that we can exchange there.
This is the ultimate place for fun and relaxation with the beautiful surroundings & amenities and impeccable service from the staff. I have timeshares at Marriott (Palm Desert and Newport Beach in California). This four Seasons residence club is in Major League if Marriott is in Minor League.
Beautiful, spacious accomodations with down pillows and a duvet on thevery comfortable king sized bed! The grounds are beautiful, and staff friendly, attentive and accomodating. Gorgeous bathroom with double marble topped sinks. Top flight exercise equipment and steam room. Easy access to shopping, beach and Village of Carlsbad.
THE STANDARD BY WHICH OTHER RESORTS SHOULD ASPIRE TO! DAILY MAID SERVICE, BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED OVERSIZED VILLAS, LUXURIOUS TOUCHES SUCH AS ROBES, METAL CRIB AND FLUFFY LINENS --- WE REQUESTED THEM TO BABYSAFE THE ROOM AND WE FELT SO MUCH SAFER AFTER ARRIVING!
CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN TO VISIT ALL THE SITES OF SAN DIEGO AND LAY BY THE POOL!
This is an outstanding resort. The rooms are spacious and well decorated. The unit we stayed in had 2 BR and 2 1/2 baths (about 1700 sqft) Concierge service was excellent and daily maid service is included. (Both worthy of nice tip.)
The golf course was beautiful, exciting and difficult. Very fast greens! Reasonable for vacation golf with guest/owner discount.
However, it is somewhat isolated and can be expensive if you use the hotel services and restaurants. Seafood buffet was excellent but costs $40 pp. Spa excellent but $$$.
It is a bit of a drive to San Diego but La Jolla and the beach town of Carlsbad nearby (avoid rush hour(s) traffic.)
Purchase prices are astronomical!
I own at Marriott Kaui and Sanibel Island Beach Club. Nothing compares. Not only Four Season's quality, ammenities, service but the San Diego area has so much to offer. Hotel rooms on property at resort are $275-350 per night. Highly recommend.
Had the ultimate relaxing experience as ever with Four seasons. Nothing is over looked and the attention to detail is unrivalled. Every guest is a VIP and the rooms are first class. We took a small baby and evrything had been thought of from swimming diapers to cots. Golf is excellent here.
Nothing is overlooked at the Four Seasons Aviara. A perfect experience for relaxation in a location with nearly infinite fun things to go do! Hard to leave.
One of the most luxurious timeshares resort I've ever seen. Definitely in a class by itself, thanks to the legendary Four Seasons service.
