Resort Locator International

Feb 09, 2007

Hi, Does anyone know anything about the company., Resort Locator International? They said that we had to front them $600 to sell our timehsare and that we get it back if it is not sold within 1 year. We know not to do this, but them appear very reputable and have been in business for 17 years. Just though someone might have dealt with them in the past or heard something about them. Thanks, Beth

Beware! Tell them you will pay them $600 after they sell your timeshare and see how quick they hang up on you. You answered your own question when you said that "you know not to do this". These people could be in timbukto (or vanished) in a year.

You can do just as well selling your week at a reasonable price on Redweek and other low cost listing sites on the internet such as bidshares and myresortnetwork. The key is to list it at a price that will attract a buyers market.

[Beth, I had the same trouble with Resort Locators Int'l. They talked a good story about how quickly my timeshare would sell, based on their "excellent reputation." In desparation I fell for it, but talked them down to $400. from their requested $600. Now I cannot even reach them on the phone becuse I'm sure they have Caller ID and ignore my calls. If you have any luck with them, I'd like to hear about it...how and what you did to get it. Thanks, Grace

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that! I'll let you know if we ever sell our property! Beth

Don't be surprised if you never hear from them again. Just because they have a physical address doesn't mean they are legitimate. A legitimate resale company would have taken their fee after they sold your timeshare, not before.

There are countless horror stories here concerning upfront fee timeshare resale companies. You can more than likely kiss the upfront money you gave them goodbye.

(PHIL) Only the names have changed on these scam artist over the years!

Years ago before we had a resales office at our Lake Tahoe resort we paid $600 and signed up with a company at Stateline. This is in the three block area of Harrah and other casino's where the line from Nv and CA meet.

We had listed our unit and year and half later we had never heard anything from them.

We were having breakfast on the Ca side and just by accident walked up the office of these scam artist. My wife wanted to go in and look around and this was a small older wooden two room office with four chairs in the waiting room.

The lady had a customer so she thinking we were buyers gave us her book to look at condo's for sale. This book was six inches thick.

We opened it and found our resort and our unit and they had 9500 of our units listed and most were for same price.

This six inch book only showed timeshares in the Lake Tahoe area so I guess every timeshare had thousands of listings. We found later that they were on the Ca side because by law they couldn't have offices on the Nv side!

When the lady came up to us my wife asked how you decide which of the 9500 units you sell first. We were told they go to the first listing unless the buyer doesn't like the price then they can make offer. My wife then asked if you are telling us you will call all 9500 owners to get us the best price and we seem to lose her at this point.

She then become very rude when we told her we were owners and our unit after 1 1/2 years was number 9423 on her list.

By then there was another couple there and she ask us to leave her office. My wife told the young couple to be careful of this scam and the lady started yelling at my wife and called the cops!

After talking to them we found this wasn't the first time they had been called and then told us we probley lost our money but that the DA was already working on this company!

About four months later the office was closed down with chains on the door and Gov notice that this company had been shut down by California!

Not surprising. I hope that all upfront fee resale companies will be investigated by state attorneys general. It's a scam.

Beth, I signed up with this company over a year ago, for $200 ( I talked them down to that price) I have not been able to get in touch with them regarding the sale of my timeshare. I gave up last year on trying to reach them. Amy

I too have been had. I was called on 4/26/06 by a Daniel Smith of Precision Marketing,l and told for $750.00 They would sell my unit in Cabo. Then on June 28, of this year they said they had it sold and it would be another $400.00 which I sent, and the papers would be sent to me within 6 weeks, which is up. I now have called back Daniel Smith at the number he gave me and its no longer in service, ;robably never was. I am going to send this info into Newsmedia, and tell them to get onto this sxam.

Please have Daniel Smith call me about my Cabo Rental that he supposedly had sold. If I do not hear, I am contacting the news media, to report this scam. Tom Becker 503 769 3304

This is why the mantra from Redweek forum members is to never pay an upfront fee to sell or rent your timeshare. There are literally thousands of victims that have been taken in by these companies.

If you wish to become an activist against upfront fee companies then read of all garym's post here on Redweek. He's also trying to get the media involved in investigating upfront fee scams.

BTW, there probably never wasr a legitimate Daniel Smith. I'm sure he has moved on to invent another upfront scam of some sort with a new company name and a new personal name. These people close one scam and open another.

If anybody finds out anything about this imaginary company, please let me know as well. At this point we have forgotten about the money, but would love to find whoever is running this scam and add our names to the list of those with complaints.

I was suckered in november of last year. Wish I had known about your site. I did check with the BBB but they had no info on Resort Locator International. I thought I was smart and added a statement that they would return $250 (half of my initiial deposit) in one year. I tried calling them at 866-461-2516. That number is no longer in service. I went to their web page and there is another company using it that has no contact information. I had tried several listing companies in the past. All required advanced payment. Once before I sold my time share to one of these companies. So I had not been burned until now. The Florida Attorney General's information is no longer at the web site listed in previous responses.

Thanks Bill. I have tried contacting the state of Florida as well but they don't seem too interested in our "little" problem which is really too bad. My husband and I have just forgotten about losing the money. But I would still be up for finding out about who scammed us and doing something about it. So if you ever hear anything more on them, please let me know and I will do the same for you. At this point, it's really not about the money but about GETTING THEM!!! Thanks for your info...Beth

Don't go there. We fronted them the $$$, and now after selling our timeshare on our own, we have been unable to connect with them. We sent a Certified Mail request informing them that it had been sold, and it was returned "NOT DELIVERABLE AS ADDRESSED - UNABLE TO FORWARD". Am thinking you would see your front money, no matter what. Do you have a current phone # and address that might help us?? kellyb
