I just returned from the Xanadu Beach and Marina Resort and I must say that I am disgusted at the lack of maintenance at this RCI resort. I was at this resort back in the early 90's and it was at the top of the list for resorts and in its hey day. But with lack of maintenace it is run down and in very bad shape. It has "GREAT" potential for the future with money but at this time is sub par. Location is good for remote quite setting with sun sets galore but is not good if you want night life and convenice of other restraunts. Taxi rides are expensive from Xanadu ($18 from airport and any other destination so if you want convenience rent a car)
I did not exchange into this resort but stayed as a hotel guest in the same tower as the time share units. It appears there are some renovations being made and the tower is being slowly converted to more time share units. The windows were filthy, the hallways were dirty, we had coch roaches in our room and our balcony had several coats of paint from the years chipping off and had no chairs. Ocean and Marina View were awesome with the morning sun. A little TLC and attention to workmanship will go along way to improving this Resort. The interior of our room was spacious and over sized which is great. The bathroom was very outdated and the tub is no way going to be used for soaking. Glad my wife did not make the journey as I would have had to check out and leave. Nasty to say the least. One elevator had damage to the floor to the point you could see thru it. The beach was clean and very nice. The beach restraunt has good food and reasonably priced for the island. The restraunt and bar inside Xandu was good and clean and updated decor. Again reasonably priced for the Island. Service was ok and very laid back. Again slow season with " NO Worries, Mon" The pool has no hot tub but the pool was clean and relaxing after a hard days dive.
I stayed here because of the Dive Shop being located on site and the convenience for my diving. The dive shop itself is roomy, has two boats, and its own air source as well as very good dive masters with personal service. The dive master, Ray, was outstanding and very knowledgeable of the local dive sites and history. I highly recommend this shop for diving since it is not a "cattle boat" with cruise ship beginners. Since it was slow season for the Island our diving was spectactular to say the least complete with Sharks, turtles, and wrecks. The dive shop has free lockers for gear to dry over night.
Over all I gave the resort a two star due to poor maintenace and workmanship. Next time I will actually trade into a time share on the island some where else; but will continue to use the dive shop at Xanadu.

The previous review is dated....and unfair.
It is reviews like this that make people afraid to stay there. That's ridiculous. I don't even OWN there and I have been very pleased every time I have stayed there.
Opposite to what this reviewer says, the staff IS very helpful and caring. The ocean views are SPECTACULAR! The beach is clean and beautiful.
Unfortunately (FOR ME), word is getting around what a great place this is to stay. I am finding it more and more difficult to get an exchange there.
I rated it 5, even though technically it isn't a five, because there are a lot of signs of aging in the tower. But many of the units have been renovated and are very pleasant to stay in.

My wife and I own timeshares in Curacao, Providenciales and Gatlinburg. We went to the Xanadu via RCI two weeks before the hurricanes of 2004. This is an old resort and shows it. We had a 1-BR vacation sale-not an exchange. While the timeshare exchanges (at least the one we saw) seemed nice, the unit we were in was far below our expectations. We had to pay $60 for a small fridge, no kitchen, small bathroom. The deck was so tiny the chairs (from the room) would not fit. The beach restaurant was dirty, the resort restaurant sub-par. The staff seemed disinterested and were not at all helpful. After two days we checked out and went to the Sheraton which was great. Only got a partial refund after complaining.
