Just got back from one week in a two bedroom unit. This was our first time at the Sands of Kahana and I don't think we'll be back...for one reason only. The no A/C in the units did us in. We happened to be there when the trade winds were uncharacterically calm so there was a lack of "ocean breeze" to cool the unit. I think had there been the trade winds we might have still had a problem based on the location of the unit. We were in building 4, 3rd floor and although we had a grand view of the ocean, I think the other buildings blocked the breeze. We found if we left our door open which faced back of building, we could get a breeze but that obviously wasn't safe. Also, because you have to leave all windows open in hopes of getting a breeze it was extremely noisy. We were awakened by crying babies, maintenance staff, etc.....oh and the sprinklers that went on each morning at 3:30 am. Other than this, the staff and grounds are great and the 2 BR unit was very spacious and quite nice, except there was a mildewy smell in the bathrooms which do not get any ventilation.

We have stayed at the Sands of Kahana for many years and have loved our time there. It truly feels like home as we gather family together in the large rooms that are very open and airy. Each seem to have great views, especially compared to other Hawaiian resorts. We have always felt safe there. The restaurant by the pool is such a wonderful convenience when you just want to stay close to home, yet eat outside with the panoramic views of the ocean. The ceiling fans have always been more than adequate as the cool breezes have kept our rooms comfortable. We typically leave our door facing the water open to be serenaded by the ocean waves rolling on the beach. The lanai on the front of the building has been a delightful place to eat our breakfasts as we scan the water for whales. Our time at the Sands is a time we look forward to every year.

Very pleased at a recent stay at the Sands of Kahana. West Maui is our absolute favorite side of the island and the beach right in front is one of the best. The rooms were very spacious and appeared to be recently remodeled. The pool was crowded, (think they could use a bigger pool), but everything else was near perfect.

We came to Maui June 2008 and stayed at the Westin Kaanapolli resort. It was 5 star and we loved our trip so much we looked into buying a timeshare resale while in hawaii. The realtor we spoke to recommended Sands of Kahana b/c the prices are lower and it trades well if you don't always want to come back to Hawaii every year. My husband and I were so excited we drove down and checked this place out. We thought is was a dump compaired to the Westin or Marriott!!!!! It was very outdated and there was no A/C and it was very muggy in the rooms. It didn't feel all that safe b/c you had to leave your windows by the front door opened in order to get any breeze going thru at all and the stairs were all concrete and it seemed to echo outside the rooms like it would be noisy if there were traffic........only hardly anyone stays here it seemed! It is no wonder! There are so many other MUCH nicer places to stay. I will say the rooms were VERY large and fully functional if you don't need/expect much. If you are on a limited budget and have low expectations then this place would be OK. If you like staying in nice name brand timeshare resorts you will not be happy here. We came back June 2009 and stayed at the Marriott it was also a 5 star. (But get one of the new buildings at Marriott)

We own a unit at Sands of Kahana and the Marriott Ocean Villas. We have only stayed at the Marriott one time and have rented it out the past three years because the Marriott packs their guests in so tightly and Kaanapali in general is so congested. Sands of Kahana has huge units and great views of the whales. The people are all friendly, the units and grounds are all well maintained and the ocean breezes make up for the fact that there is no AC. The Marriott has AC, but the room remained hot because the AC is set to only go down to a certain temp and will shut off if it does not sense movement in the room - like when we were sleeping. Sands of Kahana is a great place to come with a large group because the common areas, lanai, and kitchen are huge. The washer and dryer in the units are a plus and having the grills to cook on made for some nice family evenings. We come back every year for at least a week.

We traded with II into the Sands of Kahana for a 1 week stay Aug 23 - 30, 2008. We were in unit 152. Overall this property is excellent. There were no problems at all. The suite is HUGE. It is a 2 bedroom - the master bedroom with a king bed. The front room had a queen hide a bed. The 2nd bedroom was a bit small, with 2 single beds. The kitchen, dining room and all common areas of the suite were very spacious. The overall property was well kept and very beautiful. This place is right on the beach and a very quiet beach used almost exclusively by "Sands" guests. In our experience, this place had the best so far (for us) sales pressure to do the usual 90 minute presentation. They wanted to give us discounts for all the tours and sites to see, but in order to get the "deep" discounts, we had to take the tour / presentation. That was it! We said no thanks, and never heard from them again. The only down side was there is no air conditioning in the unit. For me personally, not a problem at all. My wife would have liked the AC. There are ceiling fans in the suite and thee was an almost constant breeze / wind of some sort. We will go back, and highly recommend this property.

Stayed here recently, and we really enjoyed the location near great snorkling and boogie boarding, bbq areas, local happy hour in the bar, and small private beach. The rooms are large, and we ate on the lanai everynight with the family. Only negative was no AC and outdated elevator that kept breaking down.

We've stayed at the Sands for 5 years now. It’s the best. The staff (except for the front desk) is great. The BBQ grills are cleaned everyday. The grounds are clean and the rooms are huge. When we get a suite that's up high we can watch the whales with binoculars. Kids love it here. Lots to do. The kitchen has everything. Everything works. There are lots of towels and a washer and dryer in the suite. I found the place to be clean, quite and secure. We'll keep going back.

Just stayed at the Sands of Kahana in March 2007. We have stayed at this resort several times at different times of the year. It is absolutely one of the best places to stay on the island of Maui.

The units are all over sized with plenty of room to spread out, even with a large crowd! Even on the warmest days, the units have always been most comfortable and in the evenings even have to get out the blankets.

The resort has great amenities, pool, jacuzzi, and the restaurant has made great improvements during the last year. Breakfast was a treat with a spectular view of the ocean!!

When we stay at the Sands of Kahana we truly feel like we are home. The convenience to all the excitement of the town of Lahaina along with the close proximity to some of the best snorkeling in Maui help make this place my FIRST choice of accomodations in Maui. If you have a chance to stay here, book it right away!!!

Candi7 does prove there is an ass for every seat. Stayed in October and loved it. I have said for thirty years I would never buy a timeshare to trade. If I would not use it every year and when I died my kids would not love it I would not buy it. Well I have bought two and want two more. Does not feel like a hotel room but like a home most of us cannot afford.

The resort is nice and right on the beach. I stayed here for the first time in May 2006. I have mixed feelings about this property. When we arrived, our room was not ready, and it was already 3:30pm. Our room was huge; bigger than any other timeshare unit I've ever seen in Maui. I like visiting in May because because the tradewinds keep the temp cool. However, this time we experienced a heat wave in the middle of our trip. Our unit felt like an oven at night. Everyone in our unit was miserable. This place has got to upgrade and install air conditioning!! I'm used to the heat; I live in California, but the heat in the unit was unbearable, even with the ceiling fans!! The heat kept us up all night, and even with the windows open, there was no breeze because our unit was blocked by two buildings. I will never stay here again, but for what it's worth, it is a nice property. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Excellent! We are here NOW, March 2009 for one week. What a beautiful place. The sunset from our porch, the grounds, the beach, the privacy, and the whales all over the bay just off shore. The hot tub and pool are great and there is even a happy hour at the restaurant next to the pool. We used the outdoor grill to cook burgers and dogs and had a great dinner, saving tons of money vs eating out. The units are EXTRA, EXTRA large units and have everything needed. The kitchen is large and has a full fridg with icemaker and water in the door, Washer/Dryer, dishwasher with free soaps, etc. The day temps are perfect with windows open and the ocean surf sounds lingering into the rooms. Nighttime temps dropped only a few degrees but you will want to close most of the windows and sleep with a sheet or a light blanket. I have NEVER needed or wanted a/c at this place. Located on the portion of the island that is windy and cool, the humidity is lower than expected for beachfront and is actually perfect day and night. I cannot say enough good tings about this beautiful property. This is my second time here and I will come again. We felt like we are home and it is absolutely one of the best places to stay on the island of Maui.

We have a 2 bedroom unit at the Sands Of Kahana. Resort staff is freindly with activites for both adults and children. Close to Lahaina and Kannapali beach. Units are very large, so they're wonderful for large families or multiple couples. Units are on the beach with soft gentle waves easily heard. Great for sleeping!

We have owned at the Sands since 1996 and we love it. We have stayed at other places on Maui and on the other islands. There is no other place like the Sands.

The beach, the grounds, the privacy, the spacious units. It is all good. The staff have always been helpful and responsive. We alwasys go during whale season and have seen countless whales from the lanai. We are able to exchange this week, but we have never done so and don't intend to.

We just stayed here last week 8/14 - 8/21 and it was GREAT!! We had the Penthouse in building 2 and the view was absolutley wonderful. There was a constant breeze that came through the windows and balconies and the temperature was great. I would recommend this resort to anyone. Yes it could use some renovations, but we were very satisfied with it. Would definitley recommend going to Costco to do your shopping - much better food selection and you will pay much less than going to the store down the road from the resort.

Our family of six stayed at this resort in April 2005. We stayed in the penthouse unit in building 2. The view from the room was spectacular. The staff was very friendly and helpful as were the activities director.

The three bedroom unit was very large but in need of renovation. We had little privacy due to the floor plan. This resort has no A/C in the rooms. When we opened the two lanai doors at night to cool the room down every door in the unit rattled. The beach and restaurant at this resort were average at best.

We had a nice time but I need a quiet room, A/C, and privacy in order to get a good nights rest from the days activities.

Obviously Candi7 should have stayed at the Hilton! We have many timeshares and would NEVER trade this one for ANYTHING! Location, location, location! Restaurant food is great and reasonable, pool seems adequate except for Christmas break or Spring break, but overall we were so impressed we bought 1 week a few years ago, and another last year. Going again this weekend, and can't wait. You could trade this resort for ANYWHERE in the WORLD at the drop of a dime!

Stayed at this resort 3 different times, September 2003, May 2004 and September 2004. It is a wonderful resort located right on the sandy beaches of Kahana. It is very convenient to have a sandy beach and a restaraunt on the premise. The rooms and the grounds were very well kept. It was very pleasant as it is not a mega resort but rather a nice secluded and quiet complex.

We enjoyed our stay so much that we planned our next year's vacation to this resort for 1 week in June 2005 and 4 weeks in August/September 2005.

I highly recommend this resort to any and all especially if you need a 3 bedroom unit.

Stayed there over Spring Break. We loved the views and the grounds were fantastic and well groomed. The beach is wonderful and the pools were relaxing. There is a tennis court on site and BBQ's everywhere. We also went snorkeling and kayaking. Torches are lit everynight. From our balcony we could see many whales.

Our unit was huge. The rooms are large and there is a full kitchen with a washer and dryer. We could sleep 8 in our unit. They had fun activities for the kids everyday. (We painted coconuts and still have them in the kids rooms.) We felt safe at the resort and we had fun catching the geckos in the gardens.

This condo is close to shopping and restaurants. There is also a grocery store nearby.

July 2004 Stayed here for a week and what a joke this place is. The only thing going for it was the size of the units and they were nicely renovated, but as for the "resort", YUCK! The pool was so disgusting I wouldn't let my kids swim in it. The "activities director" was rude and totally unprepared. You could get a better nights sleep at a construction site. I was really disappointed. Never again.

July 3 - July 17, 2004

We just finished staying for two weeks at the Sands of Kahana and had a fabulous time. The units are HUGE (1800 sq. ft. for 2 bedroom). Although there is no air conditioning, the units are designed for airflow and with the trade winds, we were never hot. In fact, sleeping to the cool breezes and listening to the ocean surf was a joy I had forgotten with air-conditioned units.

The resort has 8 grilling areas and we cooked many meals in the huge kitchen (and thanks to Cosco for better prices than last visit).

Kahana is just past Kaanapali (where we stayed last time) and is less crowded. The pool is nice, but a little small; the spa was wonderful - many lawn chairs, very helpful staff.

The restaurant on-site (adjacent to the pool and open air) was a wonderful place when we didn't want to cook.

This was definately our best Hawiian experience to date.

Stayed March 28-April 4, 2004. First time there and so impressed. Had a one bedroom unit. HUGE. Full kitchen means full kitchen. Whirlpool gold microwave, dishwasher, stove, and full size refrig and freezer. Even a garbage disposal. Brought food at Costco and cooked most meals there so saved tons. Gas BBQ's everywhere. You could grill, have a beer, and talk to other guests. So nice. We had two lanas, one overlooking the ocean where we counted over 30 whales during our stay.

Activities everyday. Games for kids, coconut painting, sarong tying, storytelling and legends of Hawaii. So much. Wonderful people to help you schedule outings if you wanted to leave the resort. Fantastic secure room for putting your luggage in on check out day, so you could enjoy the resort all day at the ocean or by the pool then shower that evening before you go to the airport late. First resort I have seen like this. Underground covered parking. Awesome.

Bathrooms were wonderful. Nicer than we have at home. Tons of room to unpack and spread out. Cupboards under sinks and 6 drawers besides. Even 4 shelf cupboard above the toilets. Much appreciated. Stackable washer and dryer in your own unit. Used it all the time.

The resort is fantastic. We were there spring break with tons of families there. Always room at either pool and extra chaise lounges by the ocean. Private to the max. Had other resort people looking because they hated the noise at their resorts.

Landscaping is beautiful, lush, georgous. Great volleyball court that they rake out everymorning.

We loved our week here and would gladly recommend it to everyone.

We stayed here Feb 29-Mar 7, 2004. The pool is small for the amount of units here & VERY COLD. The lobby area is nice, but they run TOO many people thru their "tours" trying to sell timeshares. It was very annoying because the elevator was broken most of the time. The beach was good & the hot tub was ok, not really hot! The place needs a really good cleaning, both outside & inside. There are much better places to stay on Maui!

6 of us stayed here in 2001. We loved the Penthouse suite - very large. The beach is close and beautiful and the barbeques are fantastic. They were always clean and well maintained as well as the grounds. The location for us was perfect. I highly recommend this resort to everyone.

After 7 visits we think it is the best resort in West Maui. It's on the beach with a restaurant and other major restaurants within walking distance. Close to golf - just the best!!
