We stayed at Kala Point Village Resort May 19 26 2006 (II code KAP, KLA)
The Resort:
The resort is located about 6 miles south of Port Townsend. It is in a gated private waterfront community at Kala Point and requires a magnetic pass key to get through the electronic gate. When using the magnetic pass key remember to push it all the way back into the card slot to push the back spring mechanism. The first few times I had to dial the guard on the keypad because I didnt realize I had to do this. The resort consists of some 38 timeshare units located in 5 buildings (see TUG resort map) and you can get an idea of the area by looking at the shoreline photos of the Olympic Peninsula at http://apps.ecy.wa.gov/shorephotos/ The registration office is right on the corner as you turn onto Village Dr. Office hours are Fri 4pm-10pm, Sat 9Am 5pm, Sun11am 3pm. Check in was quick (we arrived around 7:00pm) . You pay a $60 non refundable cleaning fee at registration and this must be by cash or check? (they dont take credit cards) This resort does allow pets but there is an additional $30/pet cleaning fee for your pets. We received 2 metal keys for our unit (not magnetic) and a pretty good unit information pack that also included coupons and an extensive list of things to do, and sites to see. The staff was very friendly.
Since this was a rental we already had the magnetic pass key mailed to us by the owner but you probably would dial the guard at the gate if this had been a regular timeshare exchange. We ended up having to rent since our exchange request for WorldMark at Discovery Bay or Kala Point Village for any week in May through the end of September never came through (put in at least a year in advance). Kala Point Village is a small timeshare resort with a large portion of owners either using, internally exchanging through Resorts West Vacation Club, or renting their units during the May to Sept timeframe (per the owner and intimated by II with respect to II exchangers). WorldMark at Discovery Bay is a larger resort but I am guessing also that most owners either internally exchange through WorldMark, use, or rent their units during that timeframe.
Our rental was unit # 22, a 2 bedroom 2bath 3 level unit in the middle of building 3 (seven units in that building). The outside of the unit looked a little worn. The units are large with a full kitchen, dining, living room, and balcony on the main floor, the bedrooms, bathrooms, washer and dryer on the lower level (with walkout sliding glass doors in the master bedroom), and a loft on the upper level which had a table and dresser but no bed (I think you can put a cot up there ) and a partial view of the Port Townsend Bay. The description at http://www.resortswest.org/Resorts/Kala/ is pretty accurate for this unit (also see TUG resort pictures). The units are situated in a fairly wooded area (at least building 3 was) so for most units you probably cannot see Port Townsend Bay or you only have a fairly limited view. This also makes the area seem darker than say the units at WorldMark at Discovery Bay would be based on pictures of the resort. Everything was in good working order in our unit, the unit was clean, the furniture was in decent shape, and some appliances appeared to be new. The carpet was the only thing that seemed fairly worn and close to needing replacement although we could tell it had just been cleaned. Based on what I saw, housekeeping takes pride in what they do (towels folded in artistic shapes) and they a leave a signed personal note indicating to call them if you need anything. The units have electric baseboard heat (at least ours did) and even in late May we did have to use the heat for several nights. The showers were pretty good and there was plenty of hot water. The master bedroom has a sliding glass door with hanging blinds so you need to make sure these are reasonably well shut at night for privacy although most units look out to a wooded area. Washer and Dryer worked fine.
The resort has tennis courts, a clubhouse, and a pool but we did not get around to checking them out. Its also supposed to have a fairly nice beach but we didnt check it out either. This resort would be fine for families. The landscaping is very nice with all the bright pink rhododendron bushes and flowers. We were there during the Rhododendron festival held in Port Townsend. A few times when we went into Port Townsend I did notice, as other reviewers had previously mentioned, the smell of the Paper Mill as we passed by the mill but I never smelled it when at the resort.
All in all I thought the resort was fine and would go back to it (maybe try out the beach and some of its other amenities). I think they are also planning on doing more refurbishing of units in the near future.

Kala Point was very nice. Security patrolled the grounds and made sure only those authorized to be there, were there. Our unit was very large and had a loft area in it. The sun rises were beautiful over the water. We found everything to be in excellent shape. It was a restful week. We'd return to Kala Point.
