If I had to describe The River Club resort in one word, the first that comes to mind is “classy.” Truly, the word “classy” defines just about every aspect of this new resort, located in the heart of Telluride’s historic town and just steps away from the gondola, exceptional restaurants, and interesting shops. From the moment we arrived, we were given a personalized tour of the resort, our bags were brought to our three bedroom, three bath unit, and our concierge was already hard at work arranging for dinners throughout our stay. She had even reserved tickets for us to see Second City, while they were in town, just a block away from the resort.

Most impressive within the resort are the units, the rock spa, and the owner’s lounge. Our unit was incredibly spacious allowing for six people to stay very comfortably. Built in the last three years, the interior designers did not skimp on a thing. From the leather furniture, to the marble counter tops, and the top-notch bathrooms – I could have easily made The River Club my home. Our unit had an overly spacious living/kitchen/dining area with two bedrooms/baths flanking either end. In the middle of the unit was a spiral staircase leading up to the third bedroom and bath. Each of the 27 units is designed somewhat differently from one another. I also really liked the one key rule – the key always stayed with the concierge when we were out of the unit. That way, no one ever has to carry a key. Also, I cannot forget the efforts made by our concierge. She basically took care of all our plans while we were in Telluride, and she always left us messages on the voice mail, confirming our reservations. Very helpful reminders. And, most importantly, every suggestion she made to us was excellent – we were never disappointed with her recommendations.

The rock spa is a most amazing experience. Of course, getting into a spa after a day of skiing is already a great feeling, but to experience a spa made entirely from several tons of outcropping set beside a most picturesque river at the base of the mountain – simply put, it is exhilarating. A highlight from the trip, most definitely.

The owners lounge is a wonderfully comfortable spot to meet friends or relatives, enjoy a cozy fire, and delight in coffees, teas, hot cider/chocolate, fruit, cookies – all day/evening long. Again, this lounge looks over the river and the mountain.

A health club is located on the first floor, along with a family style room – including a pool table, games, books, television, etc. for gatherings of family and friends. The only amenity that the club lacks is a pool.

What surprised me the most about Telluride, as a first timer, was the lack of crowds. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon in prime ski season and there wasn’t a lift line to be seen. Not only that, the town itself, seemed quiet – but also vibrant at the same time. Telluride is full of character. The restaurants are unique and some of the best I have ever been to. Though, all restaurants require reservations ahead of time. The shops are all well worth your time.

Other services The River Club offers – we used all of them – are: valet underground parking, in-town transportation (which you don’t really need even in the winter), full concierge service.
