We had a wonderful time at Celebrity! The studio units are a little crowded, but it was perfect for us: two adults and a child. It was so nice to be close enough to everything and not need a car and have to worry about parking. We barbequed almost every night on the gas grills at the resort and ate outside in the lovely tropical courtyard. Our room was clean and the staff and service was excellent. Celebrity is a cool island of calm in the heart of Waikiki, and a great place to come home to after a hectic day or a hot day at the beach.

Did not enjoy my stay here at all. Reserved for 4 nights. Check out early after spending 2 nights. Stayed in an efficiecy unit on the 3rd floor. This must have been the worst room at this property.
I must say that we were uncomfortable from the moment we checked into our room. We spent most of our time figuring out how not to spend any time in the room. First , the layout of the room: You open the door to the room. The headboard of the bed was right next to the door as you open it. About 3 steps later to the left is the bathoroom/closet. We came to be more horrified with this design when we actually utilized our bathroom. The bathroom has zero ventilation (if you get my drift)!!! No ventilation fan, no bathtub, just shower with shower curtain. Toilet is about 2 feet from the wet shower curtain. And your clothes share your bathroom space!! There is somewhat of a slatted door on the "closet". The other side of the room consisted of a sofa, kitchenette and balcony. There is air conditioniong. However, when you opened the balcony sliding door, the door bangs against the air conditioner. f you sit on the balcony, you get to listen to your and your neighbors' air conditioner.
The kitchenette was nice, not in the bathroom. (Sorry, couldn't resist the humor). However the tightness of the room and the co-mingled space, literally makes you not want to deal with food in the room. The carpet was an old fashioned dark green color. It's ok when you first check-in, but as the hours go by, you notice that this color shows every grain of sand, every light colored speck, etc.
Too tight of a space. Dated surroundings. Didn't feel that the room was clean. My husband misplaced his glasses. We still laugh at how horrified we were that they might have fallen under the bed. Neither of us wanted to check under or behind the bed. Luckily we found them before needing to do this. I'm sorry to say that we checked out of this hotel after 2 days. We're not hotel snobs. Our vacation just wasn't worth the hassle. I woke up both days thinking "How can I spend as little time in this room today, as possible?"
Due to other positive reviews, which I relied on, my advice is to try get a "good" room. If that guarantee is not possible, I would not risk my vacation time being uncomfortable. Book something that you can be sure about. I didn't see any of the other rooms.
On a positive note, the hotel staff very hospitable. Starbucks is close by. Galaxy Restaurant is also close by and has a great breakfast special ($2.99).

There is always room for improvement, but many upgrades have been done recently. The property is clean and tidy and friendly. The Studio kitchenettes do not have ovens, and do have only under counter sized fridges, if that is important to you. The one bedrooms have full sized ovens and fridges; check when you book. Also, the cable selection is nothing to get excited about, nor is there a VCR included. You can rent a VCR player, and there is also a charge for the Wifi internet connection. But who spends much time in their room in Hawaii? We love the friendly efficient staff here!

My rating is based on the price, location and the general friendliness and knowledge of the staff. Housekeeping is great. If you are the 5 star hotel type person who do not mind paying close to $1000 a night in peek season in Waikiki then this place is not for you. If you are like me who would rather spend my money on having a great time in restaurants and places to see, this place is PARADISE. FRIENDLY AND HELPFULL STAFF AND WALKING DISTANCE TO THE BEACH AND SHOPPING.

Has a great location. It is older and in need of refurbishing. Premises are clean, furniture is adequate. They charge $1.00 per day for a safe in the closet, whether you use it or not and $10.00 per day for parking, which is very limited on the premises but for the same price you can park at an adjacent hotel. If not for the location, would not recommend staying here.

location;location;location! Most of downtown Waikiki is older, and so is this resort but it has been updated. Has full kitchens; pool; jacuzzi; and I had a non smoking room!! (you can get regular smoking rooms too.) Convenient to everything; if you can't walk there, the local shuttle bus will take you there so no need to rent an expensive car. Beach is a short walk (5 min), or shuttle bus it. Great great staff to tell you all; clean place. Under new ownership with Celebrity Resorts who bought out the Leisure Resort chain and what a difference it now makes!!!!!!!!! Rooms are more than adequate, cheaper than most else, and who goes to Hawaii to spend a lot of time in your room??? It is up and out when you're on Oahu and in Honolulu; save your money for a grander place on Maui or Kauai where you do spend more time in the condo.

We stayed here in 1982 when it was The White Sands and again 20 years later and had a wonderful time. It is not fancy, you cannot get a 2 bedroom and the units are a tad small.... with that said, the staff is awesome, the locale is quaint and just 3 blocks from Waikiki and a stones throw from the Ala Wai canal. It is only 3 stories so there are some stairs to climb but I do recommend that you will enjoy your experience here. After all, it is Hawaii!

Great little resort in a terrific location. Court yard is special but pool is a tad small and cool. Units in good shape but small.
Unfortunately management company is in Chapter 11 bankrupcy protection at this time and Association is in significant debt. Caution if considering a buy at this or anyother Leisure managed resort would be wise (Fall, 2003).
