Whitbarrow Village is set in a beautiful 20-acre site amidst mature trees and gentle pastureland at the foot of the Lake District fells. An ideal family centre, it offers a leisure complex including swimming pool, sauna, gym, snooker and squash court, plus an outside tennis court, crazy golf course and children`s play area. Golf, sailing and pony trekking are all possible nearby and there are also many walks. The cottages, built in a traditional compact style, are grouped in a village setting complete with cobbled street and walkways.

Whitbarrow Village is located at the northern end of the Lakes District in Cumbria. It is a former farm with outbuildings turned into apartments and some new buildings built to look like farm outbuildings. The location is beautiful, about 7 miles east of Penrith and the M6 motorway. There is a big focus on entertainment during the day and evenings, with a kids’ program, and indoor swimming pool, a gym and a games room. There is a £3 per day electricity surcharge, which seems to be more and more frequent at resorts both in Europe and in North America. The units are quaint, and not as spacious as we are used to in North America, nor as spacious as other Seasons Holidays resorts. We had a two-bedroom unit that was actually three bedrooms, with a double bed in one room and two single beds in the other two rooms. This would be fine for a couple with children but awkward for two couples! The beds were firm but comfortable. The one bathroom was spacious and located off the dining area. The kitchen was adjacent to the dining area on the main floor, while the living room and bedrooms were upstairs. The ceilings downstairs were low with beams that could seriously harm a taller person! The rooms upstairs all had skylights that could stay open even in the rain, which I loved. The kitchen was well equipped, with an excellent gas range, but the lighting was very poor. Also the fridge was bar-fridge size, which made it difficult to plan for too many meals at a time. There is a restaurant on site and I suspect that more people eat there than cook for themselves. Our unit had a back door that opened onto a duck pond with numerous ducks of all ages, who charged the door whenever it opened, being used to handouts from the guests. Whitbarrow does have a small laundry facility on site, with one coin-operated washer and dryer. I would rate this resort a 7 out of 10.
