Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Caribbean
Club Fun Tropicale is at the very center of Playa Dorada, an expansive, modern resort community situated on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic. Surrounded by a world famous Robert Trent Jones championship 18-hole golf course, and offering numerous tennis courts, swimming pools and clubhouse, you can truly enjoy it all at Club Fun Tropicale! Volleyball, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding and deep-sea fishing are all available for your enjoyment. The resort provides free transportation to the beach.
Nearby, visit the historic Cathedral of Santa Maria La Menor, the oldest cathedral in the Americas. Artifacts housed there include Madonna by Murillo, the crown of Isabella of Spain and numerous jewels. Christopher Columbus is buried in the cathedral in a marble sarcophagus.
To the best of our knowledge, the all inclusive plan includes all meals and certain activities, and costs $40 per adult, per day. Children under 12 are $20 per day. Please confirm these details and costs with the posting member prior to renting, buying, or exchanging.

We stayed at Fun Tropicale in November'05, in a 2 bedroom unit. Our bathroom was in sad shape, and it took many calls to get someone there to look at it. The ceiling tiles were leaking from above. The room was not well lit, so reading was not much of an option.
Some of the staff at the front desk were not pleasant, and rather annoyed when we had questions. Our building did lose hot water for an evening. They let us shower in an empty unit.
The grounds are well kept, the food was good. We enjoyed the buffet and the Salvadorian restaurant was quite good as well. Lucy, the activities director, is a huge asset and a sweetheart. She purchased bus tickets for us in downtown Puerto Plata for a day trip to Santiago, and then when we had to change which day we went, she changed the tickets for us again. Pool area was well kept, shows were mediocre. The water on this side of the island is rough, so if snorkeling is your game, you won't get any unless you go to Sosua Bay (a 25 minute taxi or guagua ride away - lovely place to spend the day). Boogie boarding is good, and the beach is wonderful for long walks.
We probably would not go back to this part of the island again, as we enjoy the water too much. Santiago was a nice place to visit - we met friends there and they took us touring, and to a waterfall in the mountains.

Nice resort. Offers many day trips around the area and has optional meal plan. Is in walking distance of shops, bank, etc. Two bedroom unit can be divided if needed. Comfortable and typical island style. Plenty of activites including nightly entertainment, or just sit and relax and enoy the gardens and pools. Locals are very friendly and helpful. Safe location, good for couples, singles or families.

A fun place! Lively entertainment nightly, bars open 16 hrs daily, 3 restaurants, lots of people and much to do. 2 of 3 pools were topless. Condo was a bit tired, small, but clean. Nearby mall was nice. Puerto Plata town is very old and poor.
