(Edit to reflect 2011) The grounds have been refurbished. There are fire rings in the quad for sitting and enjoying family and friends. The grounds are laid out with more seasonal flowers. The pool area has been expanded, and there's newer furnishings-- lounge chairs, sofa style outdoor chairs. It's a tropical destination-- moderate temperatures, close proximity to the ocean and town. I've stayed here MANY times. It's my favorite resort in the summer. The surf in front of the resort is great for families, great for surfers. 2nd and 3rd floor units have varying degrees of ocean views. I've stayed on the end (311) and had the FULL ocean view, and I've stayed in the 100's, and had none. Either way, the resort is amazing. There are TONS of activities to fill the day if you want to just stay there. It's the perfect place to just park and stay. All your entertainment, shopping, etc., is within a short walk.

There's wireless internet access in all the rooms, and two free computers to utilize in the lounge. The beach is just down some steps and across a small street. (There are no dumpsters in any direction-- reference to a previous review with many inacuracies.) There's a reason why people seek this place out for summer rentals... it's a hot spot. I wouldn't call it crowded, but it certainly is active. Personally, I like staying at the place where people go to get married... where people walk around just to observe the view, look at the landscaping and enjoy the grounds... I like resorts like this, but I guess this type of atmosphere could be considered busy to some. Live music on the lawn on weekends, wine and cheese socials, sun-bathers, readers/relaxers, families, honeymooners... they're all there. It can be a lively place. There's a restaurant on the grounds, and they have outdoor dining. There are complimentary bike rentals, games, free surf lessons, casino night and tons of other activities. The activities... the ammenities... We love it there!

Love, love, love this resort! We've been owners for 20 years and my family has made so many wonderful memories here. The venue is perfect for everyone, whether you are traveling with children or not. The location on the beach makes this a relaxing getaway. Ocean views from almost everywhere in the resort are calming and peaceful and you are "de-stressed" immediately upon arrival.

Carlsbad Village is a "gem" - a laid back beach town with everything you need --- and in the hustle and bustle of today's world, it is wonderful to be able be so close to the ocean and also to be able to WALK to restaurants, shopping, the beach, and the Coaster/Train station. Why drive when you have the train at your doorstep!

My parents bought their unit first (a third floor ocean view), and then we purchased our unit (3rd floor end unit facing the ocean). My kids have such fond and lasting memories. My son loves the resort so much (he's a surfer)), he asked his wife to marry him there and spends each anniversary at Carlsbad. He now has a child of his own and she will follow the tradition. Thank you Carlsbad Inn for being such a big part of our lives. It is truly a second home to us.

rented a condo in the 200's.. here is my take on the place Good: 1. Plenty of restaurants but they are extremely busy so you have to have patience to eat out. 2. right in the heart of Carlsbad Village 3. resort provides activities everyday including outing to LA, SD, etc.. 4. Front Desk staff very friendly and helpful. 5. beach chairs/umbrella (only 1) /towels are provided as are bikes and jeep jogging strollers. 6. morning news cafe very good breakfast

1. BBQs are shared and a walk from the 2nd floor to the first floor so be prepared 2. there are not really any "TRUE" ocean view rooms in this place (well maybe a few but I doubt on redweek). Yes you can see the ocean and also the neighbors across the street and their dumpsters. 3. Maid service only comes 2 times for the week so garbage and recyclables pile up. 4. Internet is there but was not reliable at all so I used my VZW aircard. 5. 1 assigned parking spot only - but parking clears up after the day ends. 6. Kitchen very small (wife said she couldnt even use it so we ate out instead)

Great resort. Really enjoyed our stay. Staff was friendly and professional. Shops, restaurants, and the beach are all within walking distance. Sure will return again.

I would give it a 4.5 on the rating scale. The condos were clean and well equipped with everything a family would need. They were decorated nicely, nothing was dated or old or dirty. The staff was friendly and extremely accomodating. The location couldn't be more perfect. Right in the heart of Carlsbad. Within walking distance to restaurants and shops. The beach is right behind the resort and the resort gives you all the beach "toys" you need (umbrella, chairs, toys, etc.). The grounds are well kept and very pretty.

The pool area was a little small but everyone goes to the beach so it was no big deal. I would go back and we have stayed at 5 star resorts and spas. Good time.
