As Mike noted, you certainly should buy where you want to vacation (if you are buying a fixed week) and only use exchanges for "the icing on the cake". No brainer. Why pay an exchange fee all the time? Of course, the other option is to be in a large resort group that lets you use your ownership or points at any of their resorts at no additional charge. We find that the best of both worlds! MD
