The very worse thing a timeshare owner can do is NOT use or exchange their week.
As far as rentals go, it depends on supply and demand of the week and the resort where you own. It's not a given that all timeshare weeks can be rented out .... it would seem that only a small proportion of the millions of timeshare weeks CAN be rented out going by Redweek's rentals and the ones with RENTED posted in the ad.
If you do list your timeshare for rent, list it lower than any other similar rental in your timeframe. Many timeshare owners think they can get far more for their rental than they actually can .... many can't be rented out at all .... again, it all goes back to supply and demand of the resort and time you own.
