fantasy vacation villas (by Liana K.):
5 years ago I bought what I thought was an RV ownership/with Timeshare exhange privileges in Niagra falls, Ontario at Fantasy Vacation Villas. We paid about $6000. We were showed a presentation about RCI and told we could use RCI, Interval and DAE and a number of other exchange companies. Our plan was to use the RV (which slept 6) most years and explore places near home with my husband and 4 kids. Occasionally we wanted to use it to trade for a different type of vacation. We never intended to use the villa at Niagra falls since it is too far away from our home. The first vacation we used it for was great, we stayed in Florida. The next year when we went to book the RV, we were told the person that sold us our ownership had left the company and they had sold all the RV's and now we only had privileges at the Fantasy Villas in Niagra falls and trading privileges with a few exchange companies. We got them to rent a tent trailer for us since we had booked spots to camp already before knowing this. They paid us for a tent trailer rental which was covered the cost of our maintenace fee. (Not an RV which was what we paid for) We have exchanged it for two other places one in UTah and one in Fairmont BC. They were fine, but we could have rented a week at each resort for about the same price as our maintenance fee. I have also discovered that fantasy vacation villas does not trade through RCI or Interval any longer and I have extremely limited options as to where I can trade.
I want out!!! What can I do? We obviously made a mistake buying in, I don't want to hear that, I want suggestions on whether I can go after them in court.
