I'm considering buying in silver season at Marriott's Horizon Branson from MVCI. Has anyone had a experience trading within the Marriott system with off season weeks in the Marriott resorts.

I hope you're considering buying resale instead from the developer. You can save a ton of money by doing so.

Hi Bill:
My husband and I own three timeshares and it is our view that you should buy a timeshare in a location that you would not mind going to every year. My experience has been that it is not as easy to trade as you would think. We were at the Frenchmen's Reef in the Virgin Islands in January. I told this to the salesman and he said to me "boy you really understand this whole concept." But that's just my opinion. He then told us a story about someone who bought in Branson and thought they would go there every 3 years or so (trade the other years) and then laughed.

Getting accurate information from sales is very hard because of the sales pressure. I'm currently hearing from sales that all MVCI property's are all red when it comes to trading between MVCI resorts.billm89 wrote:I'm considering buying in silver season at Marriott's Horizon Branson from MVCI. I agree with Jay.. we own 3 Marriott timeshares and we purchased each one privately, we do not get points but we have saved a ton of money from buying resale. One of our timeshares is in Hilton Head and we have been there once and decided to not go back. We trade or bank this week every year and Interval gives a bonus week each year. We have been very successful in trading within and out of the Marriott system and it is very easy. Marriott is color blind within their sytem.

Marriott dose support this too, but claim they use resort seasons as a filter for trading. Marriott sales also claim that they may change the club rules to exclude external buyer's (re sales) XO's as they call them and have them only use Interval for there trades, and create there own trading division for only those who purchased directly from MVCI.jayjay wrote:I hope you're considering buying resale instead from the developer. Personally I consider this wrong because it devalues my investment for future re sale. Dose anyone have factual information that would support that re sale buyers have the right to all the use as direct buyers.
Again thanks all for all your input and support, Bill

Also, when buying Marriott, consider many of their resort maintenance fees have risen dramatically this year. I don't know if this is a trend or not, but it's something to consider.
Yes, Marriott can change any rules they please as I have been reading on other timeshare related discussion sites. Many owners are not happy campers about the rise in maintenance fees and the rules change(s).

I just want to make one comment about buying "where you want to stay." We bought 4 Marriott weeks over the years, the first 3 all in Orlando between 1988 and 1992 or so. Back then, the sales team repeatedly said it didn't matter where you bought as Marriotts were all sought-after exchanges and Orlando was one of the most popular destinations. Why pay more at other prime locations if you could have the same trading value and still go anywhere you wanted on internal exchanges, or so they said? We bought back then primarily for points because we loved traveling all over the world using air/hotel/car rental packages. Going to Orlando every year certainly was never our reason for buying. Along comes Destinations Points, lower valuation on the Orlando weeks, threats of not being able to get into new Marriott properties unless you buy into the program, etc., etc. Because we bought early and believed all the sales hype, we are disillusioned now because we hear things like you shouldn't have purchased where you did if you didn't intend to go there regularly . . ." We're at the stage in our lives that travel closer to home at Marriott villas in the U.S. -- and sharing a 2-bedroom with friends -- is more appealing. We still have had some nice II exchanges because we are so flexible on when we travel; but it is hard to hear in points presentations that we either join Destinations and buy trust points or plan on spending a lot of time in Orlando! Enough said. You get the idea.

Nice post, So true about buying we're you want to go. It's a shame the dishonest practices of the sales people and I find it hard to believe that Mr. Marriott is not aware of this, buy rather cherishes selling at any cost. I hope you enrolled your weeks into the new program, it will help using it as a 4th option. With the exception of silver tarnished week in Branson we bought were we wanted to go. Branson is a toy that has worked well. I wish you the best....you might write a letter to Mr. Marriott and get in the DP program for the older rate to join. It's a darn shame he wants more money to bless our time.
