backing out if confirmation has different date than on posting

we recently agreed to rent a timeshare and when the confirmation came the check in was a day earlier than stated (friday instead of saturday) which would mean my husband would have to take another day off. also, it the confirmation stated that the unit was a one bedroom, and we need a two BR, which I am not sure if I missed that or it was changed later since the date was definitely changed after notifiying the renters. do we have any ground to stand on or should we have to pay to transfer the name back to the renters?

Was a Vacation Rental Escrow Service used and a rental agreement filled out and signed stating all these details?

No. The renter called RCI and transferred the week to our names and paid the fee. Then he sent the confirmation letter and an agreement to sign and send back to him with the full payment.

kris, did the ad say it was for a Friday check-in? Also did it state if it was for a one bedroom?

Hopefully you downloaded the ad so you will have confirmation as to what it stated before any changes were made by the owner. If you did so, then you certainly have the right and the proof to dispute this transaction with the owner and you should be charged nothing to change it back into their name. This should be the responsibity of the owner if he changed his ad after confirmation.

An important lesson learned, always download ads (or place them in your favorites) that you have confirmed with an owner before they can make any changes.

Also, and this is very important, always require a rental agreement that states all pertinent information before you sign on the dotted line and confirm.

You have a bigger problem. It is against RCI rules to rent an exchange. If discovered, RCI will cancel the week and the person's account who did the rental. Doesn't matter if you are on line to check in, you will be homeless that week.

Demand an immediate refund while you can. Threaten to go to RCI if necessary. Tell the person who rented it to read their RCI agreement.

The posting did say check in was for saturday, not Friday. And I am almost certain they said it was a 2BD. In any case, I did say that I wanted to talk to RCI about the situation and it is now resolved and I am out of it. Thanks so much for all the good advice!
