Hawaii owners now required to pay tax on units they rent out

If I rent out my unit through Marriott, will the company notify the state of Hawaii that I did so? Do I really owe taxes on what is essentially a reimbursement of my maintenance fee and there is no profit to me? If I rent out privately, I don't see how Hawaii would know I am doing so.
