We just returned from here last week and
after reading everyone's reviews, I'll base
mine on what was of biggest concern to me -
how it was for small children. Overall, the
resort was very nice. The staff was
excellent. We were first put in a 1 bed. (King
bed) and when check-in saw we had 2 small
children, asked if we'd like a room with 2
double beds. They showed us the room and
we took it. The bedroom was slightly bigger
because there is no balcony off the bedroom,
just off the living room, which was fine. The
window in the bedroom (we were on the 4th
floor) only opened about 3 inches, so a child
couldn't fall out. The units were a little small
for 4 people. Would be perfect for 2 adults,
but there was plenty of room in the bedroom
on the floor for the kids to play with toys (not
like some places where you can barely walk
around the bed). Bathroom was huge. The
furniture isn't nailed down, so you can move
beds and nightstands around to accommodate
your needs. Kitchen table bench was high
enough that my 2 year old could eat without
any booster seat.
I wanted a place with a kiddie pool, but the
adult pool was fine for the kids. It has a lip /
drain all around the inside so the kids have
something to hold on to. Our room was facing
the pool and it was a little loud during the
afternoon. Most days from 1 PM - 4 PM there
was live music down by the pool and it just
carried up into the room. The kids still
napped, but it was so loud, I don't know how -
I couldn't!
The boardwalk to the beach isn't that long
(you can't really tell that from the pictures)
and is easy to take a wagon or stroller down -
there is a ramp on both ends. The beach
there is beautiful - soft sand with just enough
seashells to keep little ones entertained.
The little playground area is one of those
plastic tube climb-thru things with 2 slides.
One twisty one and one small one that even a
small child could get up into and slide down.
It's right next to the pool.
My kids weren't old enough to do the kids day
camp thing, but there is a fee for it depending
on how many hours per day you use it. They
did do crafts around the pool - everything from
coloring books to making things. Even if your
child isn't old enough to do it alone, you are
more than welcome to sit down with them and
help them with the craft. Some were free,
some were $3. They have toucans, parrots,
and a few other birds in large outdoor cages
around the pool and the kids loved looking at
those.
Several days they had a grill going by the pool
and for $7.95 you could get a combo meal
which was actually huge and very good. The
food at the resort was good and not really
over-priced at all compared to what many
resorts charge. And the tiki bar has a great
happy hour from 4 - 8 PM every night, so you
can grab a drink and head down to the beach
or by the pool if you'd like.
They come by every day and take out trash
and give you fresh towels, except on the 2
days that we had the do not disturb sign up
until 10:30, then they missed us. Once a
week they do a thorough cleaning, bed
making, etc. Because it is a timeshare youll
have to bring your own coffee, sugar, etc, but
they provided just about everything else
including soaps, coffee filters, dishwashing
and dishwasher soap, a scrubby pad, and a
roll of paper towels in addition to all the
utensils and cookware.
There is a 7-11 within walking distance of the
resort. And a small grocery store also within
walking distance. If you need a big grocery
run (or don't want to pay the higher prices),
you'll have to jump in the car and go to Publix.
Overall, we were very happy there. The
rooms and resort were clean and you could
tell there were working on upgrades the
building was older and was converted from
another facility to the Palm Beach Shores. I
would recommend this place. Only reason I
gave it 4 stars is that potentially you could get
a not-so-great view if you are on the outside
of the hotel. All the inside units appear that
they would have a nice view of the ocean and
the pool. Outside units face the parking lot
and adjoining buildings.
