Reviews of WorldMark Cairns
We checked in on Sunday October 27, 2013. Check in did not go so well. Arriving at 2:00pm the gate was locked, a phone was provided at the gate so we dialed reception and announced that we have arrived from the USA, needless to say after hours and hours of air travel. They provided us with access to the courtyard and advised us that the office would be open at 4:00 for check-in. During the two hour wait at least four to five additional guests arrived. At 4:00 the office did not open and the time started to click by. All guest were becoming very upset with the situation. Some guests were told that the room assignments and keys were in a drop box, surprose the bos was empty. The weather was very warm with everyone's luggage and food purchases becoming quite uncomfortable. At 4:45 a maid came by with everyone's room assignment and keys.
We were hoping to receive a ground floor condo, due to the amount of luggage, food stores and consideration that all four of us are in our 70's. You guessed it, we were given a room on the third floor with no elevator, lift or Wyndham staff to assist us.
There are only 29 Timeshare units at this WorldMark the rest are privately owned.
Now, on to some of the highlights, the unit was very spacious and accommodating during our week stay. The grounds were lovely with many palms and flora. Barbecue areas were nice and clean. Pool and Spa area were very inviting. We loved to explore from our base at Wyndham, the day with SeaStar on the Great Barrier Reef was amazing. The Tropical Rain Forests were breathtaking. We traveled along the coast north to Port Douglas for a full day of sightseeing. After a week of driving on the wrong side of the road (with the assist of an Au.-NZ Garmin chip for our GPS purchased used on Ebay) and on the wrong side of the car we managed to stay in the right lane on all of the roundabouts. And last but not least was the Cairns Tropical Zoo and Koala Cuddle.
Every morning was truly waking up in paradise. We had a first level room that we could view the pool from our back window. We had a private entry to the pool from our room. The view was just beautiful. The resort was gated and seemed to be well managed. The staff was very helpful. Our only disappointment was that it was about a 25 minute bus ride into Cairns and not near the city. The bus stop was very near the resort. My hint there is to get a weekly bus pass and save paying each time you board the bus. There is a shuttle service to and from the airport, otherwise it was a $40.00 Aus. taxi to or from the airport. Cairns and the surrounding area is a beautiful place on earth. The resort was marvelous.
