Have you been to Tropical Sands Resort lately?

Located at the quiet (southern) end of Estero Island (i.e., Fort Myers Beach), well away from all of the traffic, crowds and congestion at the Times Square / Pier (i.e., northern) end of Fort Myers Beach. All units at Tropical Sands are 2BR and the units are unusually spacious by timeshare industry standards (about 1350 square feet, I'm told). Each unit also has its own screened porch / lanai. There is a washer and dryer inside each unit. Full kitchen (but with cheap and inadequate cookware), a circular glass dining table that seats 6, spacious living room with a flat screen TV. King sized bed in master BR (with it's own TV) and attached bathroom. There is also a second, much smaller bathroom, located outside of the second bedroom (which has two twin beds and a small, wall-mounted TV).

WiFi is provided on site at no additional charge, but the signal is weak and unreliable and allocated bandwidth quite limited and clearly inadequate by today's standards and needs. There were a few bicycles available on site, but we found them to be in such poor repair that we rented out own bikes off-property instead.

There is a deeded, right of way access path directly to the beach for TSR occupants, located right across the street from this facility. Crossing the street can be a challenge, with clueless tourists unaware of the crosswalk while speeding along Estero Boulevard. Good sized rectangular pool on site, occupied (for hours on end) by some remarkably LOUD young children when we were there, but I guess kids will be kids. By and large, most of the other occupants were older folks when we were there.

The facility is older and (very minimally) maintained by a local management company, whose front desk receptionist seemed a bit surly, but we had no particular need to interact with her again before checking out a week later. A different management company (like VRI, for example) might very well do a much better job here if they were ever able to take over the management of this facility from the locals. There is reportedly a new on site manager as of 2014 --- but still the same local management company, called RAL.

Overall, this is a decent and very well located facility, even if unit interiors are dated and in serious need of upgrading. Some of the employees on site seem to be in need of more assigned work AND some "attitude adjustment" as well. We had to (involuntarily) listen to one such employee (...after he had finished washing his car, that is) walking around the property talking on his cell phone --- much too loudly and with a fair amount of very audible and unwelcome profanity.

We liked this place, but it is clearly not without its' shortcomings...

A perfect week. The beach is larger than it's ever been, and the pool is lovely. We especially appreciated having our own washer-dryer in the unit.

All units face the pool. And since this is the quiet corner of Fort Myers, you can relax and enjoy the weather, the water and the view.

Best for families or for couples looking to unwind.

These are very large (1300 sf) 2/2 w/w/d, w/ screened lanai, clean and well equipped. The resort shows evidence of being well managed, i.e. new a/c's, new roofs, new pavers on walks and pool deck, etc. These large units w/full size w/d; and ample bbq grills around the property usually attract families. Ft. Myers Beach is a great resort island w/much to do, and fine dining nearby. I bought here site unseen thru Bluegreen and was very pleased with what I found.

I have timeshare at Tropical Sands Resort and I usually love it. After just updating the resort, I came to find it is now painted bright candy pink on the outside with an occasional panel of light blue and now looks cheap & nasty. The lovely old brown wood which runs along the ceiling and units which gave it a rustic feel, has been painted white, so now it looks very very white & light and the old homely feel it had, has gone. The lanai has new flooring and that is very nice. There seems to be less dishes & baking tins (usually the kitchen is over equiped with everything). The new Ral resort staff were very unfriendly and the family homely feel of the resort has gone. I still enjoyed my holiday but longed for the old resort as shown in the pictures.

TROPICAL SANDS RESORT in FORT MYERS BEACH FLORIDA is a resort of INTERNATIONAL DISTINCTION and very well maintained. It is a couple / family oriented resort. What a wonderful place to vacation with delicious restarants and shopping galore! Enjoy yourself as much as we do!
