Description

Hyatt's Sunset Harbor is conveniently located in the heart of Old Town and a short walk to excursions, shopping, dining, and all the entertainment Key West has to offer. A scooter is a popular alternative to walking, for easy exploration of the island. This 40-unit resort is uniquely situated on Key West Harbor, so guests don't have to leave the units to enjoy a breathtaking sunset. The five-building purpose- built property is Victorian and residential in style, with all the modern conveniences today's traveler has come to expect. Among the on-site amenities are a pool, wood deck, whirlpool, and laundry room.

Studio units here are very small, with no stove, no hot plate, no counter space and no sink (except for the bathroom sink), although the unit did have a king size bed, which was certainly a pleasant surprise. Much more like a motel room than a condo unit, actually. We were renting directly from an owner; no other unit size was available to rent. Tiny dormitory-type "mini-fridge". WiFi did not work inside the studio unit at ANY time during our week long stay (I reported the problem several times, but it was never actually addressed) --- not a big deal, as we certainly weren't in Key West to be spending time on the computer. $45.00 additional charge per week for parking in the garage next door (very convenient actually; we had no objection or problem with that fee). Front desk staff were clearly disengaged and disinterested, but we had no special requests anyhow.

This is certainly the best Hyatt location by far among the four Hyatt properties in Key West, but front desk staff consistently exhibited a disinterested attitude. Housekeeping tried to enter our unit at 8:00 a.m. on check-out day (check-out time is not until 10:00 a.m.), despite the obvious "Do Not Disturb" tag hung on our door. We politely sent her away and checked out by 9:15 a.m. This is a great Key West location, but the unnecessary staff "attitude" here was a very big disappointment for a Hyatt property.

This is a great place but frankly, I would immediately fire several of the current staff / employees if I managed this facility (and, just for the record, I have owned timeshares for over 30 years now I and sit on the Board of Directors at one of them; I certainly have the experience and knowledge to recognize "bad attitude" when I witness it in a timeshare facility staff). [NOTE: I've recently added the last two sentences as an edit to my review, in direct retort to poster "stevep352" below who, in his unsolicited "review of a review", chose to offer inappropriate (and completely inaccurate) "entitled generation" commentary regarding my objective input and factual observations here]. A defensive owner, maybe?

Poor Ken. Must be part of that "Entitled Generation". Staff has always been nothing but pleasant, friendly, and professional to us. Maybe because we treat them with the same dignity and respect that we want in return. The studio units have plenty of room. When we want a stove, hot plate or counter space, we get a bigger unit. Never had a problem with the WI-FI. We usually put the "do not disturb" sign on the door so housekeeping doesn't wake us too early - duh, common sense

We stayed at the Sunset Harbor over Spring Break. Our first time to Key West and this was an amazing spot to stay! Right at the water yet so close to everything you want to do in Key West. You don't need a car if staying at this resort - everything is walkable and bikeable. Beautiful private pool. Definitely will be back!
